It’s now known that it fell in the Indian Ocean.

Odds are about even [so to speak] that it would land in the water hemisphere.

Chicago is too far north to be in the high risk zone. Not by much though. One can hope ...

A US hit is unlikely because its the high point in the orbit. Low point is indian Ocean Australia. Good call. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3957569/posts

You were right.
It landed in the ocean.

The Earth has only one Ocean, with four [or five] named Basins: Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, [Southern].
Water covers about 71% of the Earth's surface.
Probability of a single randomly generated point on the globe "landing" in water = ~ 0.71.
The CCP rocket junk was orbiting within a wide band of latitudes, but wasn't going to land near either of Earth's poles.
Hard to calculate accurately the % of water within the wide band of the junk's final orbit.
If you wanted to place a landing bet – without knowing the final orbit's latitude boundaries – you had a slight statistical advantage betting on water.
I wrote "water hemisphere" but meant to write "Pacific hemisphere," approximately centered near Tahiti.
The water hemisphere contains the highest area of water.
It's bounded by a geodesic great circle centered on 47o 13' S, 178o 28' E, near New Zealand.
Bulk of the CCP rocket junk landed in water – the Indian Basin near the Maldives.
It did not land in either the water hemisphere or the Pacific hemisphere.
Thanks for playing.

Well, I will just not worry about space junk landing on my house anymore! ;)
