U.S economy added just 266,000 jobs last month, vs. estimates for 1 million or higher

The U.S. economy gained a disappointing 266,000 jobs last month, despite widespread forecasts that predicted a number that would top 1 million, according to the latest monthly employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The unemployment rate rose from 6 percent to 6.1 percent, contrary to expectations but still down from a historic peak of 14.8 percent last April, the highest level since the Great Depression.

The highly anticipated monthly jobs report was expected to show strong payroll growth, with some analysts even predicting job gains beyond the 2 million mark, after widespread vaccinations spurred Americans to dine out, take vacations, and venture out to stores after months of restrictive measures.

This is what they accomplished with 100 days of control of both congress and the white house.

I can’t wait to see what the next 3.7 years hold...

I live in a tourist destination, S. Utah.

You can’t swing a dead cat here without hitting a help wanted sign. Arby’s has a sign outside starting ppl at $ 12.00 an hour. Not sure if Utah is participating in the enhanced federal unemployment benefits or not; I’ll have to check.

But I can tell you I see something here that I’ve never seen anywhere: A Denny’s right next to I-15 is closed from about 11:00pm to 4:00am. Also, the McDonald’s across the way from that restaurant is closed similar hours. These were restaurants that previously operated 24 hours a day.

They don’t have the staff to open.

Maybe just throw a few more trillion dollars in helicopter money at the problem? Seems to be working well so far.

Interesting video. Mika looks like she just finished off 6 shots for breakfast and Stephani Ruhl has an unexplained grin as she acknowledges dismal job numbers and inflation.

Wait cnbc just reported yesterday that Dow was up 200+ points on strong job numbers.

Dem media is so fake, they hit trump every day as the Market skyrocketed from 2016-2019....then hit him more when it sold off, then hit trump every day, even when it recovered in 2020.

Trade war, Russia Russia Russia, tarrifs, trade war, china china china, impeachment impeachment impeachment....china flu china flu china flu, impeachment impeachment impeachment...

I can only look at cnbc for market numbers.

The writers are just paid D-Bags, blowing smoke up everyone’s a$$ to favor Dems every single day.

None of their commentary pieces are worth a crap. Not even a nickels worth of free advice.

You could just fire all of the writers, and just post numbers, and you’d get more web traffic.

Go to hell democrat media liars!

Yes, you understand.

The key to CNBC reporting is the word “as”. Such and such numbers occurred **as** this or this took place. They perpetually feel the need to tell you why numbers occurred, and they have no idea why numbers occurred.

As for job numbers this morning and the help wanted signs, there probably are people drawing unemployment in enhanced form, but there are other effects not within their measurement methods. Like streamers on Twitch, or posters on Youtube. They get paid for that and the unemployment measurements only ask questions like “Did you look for work in the past XX days”.

The national debt is what, about 26 trillion? So what. Those are dollars. Dollars, like pounds, or yuan or yen or whatever, are things created from thin air by central banks. The world has changed. We measure things with something that was created from nothingness. What sense can that make?

Time to dust off the press’ “Protect the Democrats” playbook.

Now on CNBC...headline reads S&P 500 hits record DESPITE jobs miss...wall street bets on fed easy money....

Never ever ever tie anything negative to Democrats.

Trash, lies, fraud.

It’s just paid for writing.

This is not a good sign for their theme of needing all the illegals here, “to work”.

Market’s up because Main Street working people are getting screwed. All part of the plan. Wall Street is happy.

My wife worked a 4 x 10 hour shift M-Th for the last 3 months. I have been taking 4 hours of PTO on Friday afternoons. We had a favorite microbrewery/restaurant in Idaho Falls that served great food. The service was good and Friday afternoon was usually uncrowded at 2 PM.

About 3 weeks ago, we went to lunch at our favorite spot. The parking lot was full (unusual). There was a sign on the door "Servers and cooks wanted". The tables were full (unusual). It took 5 minutes to get a seat. Unusual. Before we could even order drinks, a couple friends walked in. We asked them to join us. It was 40 minutes before our drink orders were taken and 50 minutes had elapsed before our food orders were taken. VERY UNUSUAL. It took 25 minutes before any food items began to be delivered after ordering. Unusual. A full 35 minutes elapsed between ordering food and having it on the table. Having finished our meal, it took 25 minutes to flag down the SINGLE SERVER to pay the bill. We burned over 90 minutes for what usually takes 40 minutes.

The food quality remained great, but the service went straight to hell. The single server was overwhelmed handling over 30 tables alone.

My wife has changed shifts. Today, she finished a 9 PM to 7 AM shift and must be back at work for a 5 PM to 3 AM shift, so the Friday PTO and nice lunch pattern is over for the next 3 months minimum. If the nice restaurant persists in the bad service delivery, it may be shuttered before the next shift change affords an opportunity to patronize them again.

good grief, that sounds miserable!

FWIW, I work 4x10 also and I had to poop out an extra day this week and am on the hook for an extra hour for each of the next 3 days.

:(
