AUSTIN, Texas — Texas would allow people to carry a handgun without a license, and the background check and training that go with it, under a measure approved by the state Senate on Wednesday.
Texas already has some of the loosest gun laws in the country and has more than 1.6 million handgun license holders. Lawmakers have reduced classroom and shooting range training requirements over the last decade, but had been reluctant to eliminate the license requirement altogether.

There is no time to delay, The Legislative Session is about finished. It will be 2 years before it regularly meets again.
The Governor can call a special session if needed, but it costs a lot to do that.

There is a whole lot of us that will carry anyway. DC has opened up the Mexican border to all kinds of criminals. When seconds count, cops are minutes away.

That is the reason that our sheriff endorsed it. He said that their response time is over 10 minutes.

The issue is recurrent danger.
If someone is such a threat that they can't be trusted out in society with a firearm, then why should they be trusted out in society at all?

Uh, a Background Check is done when you purchase a Firearm through an FFL.
Not if you have your CHL. You still fill out the forms, but with a CHL you auto-pass the NICS check.
To: Svartalfiar
The issue is denial of firearms for violent felons.
Many felony crimes are not that nature, but the law says they should be punished by denying voting and owning firearms.
At some point in most states it is possible to get that reversed in court. Showing no further crimes and a changed life.

My brother did get shot once with shotgun pellets when one of his buddies
got too excited about seeing whatever it was they were hunting.
Recently; at his high school reunion, Dick recalls the good, ol' days!

Of course they didn’t have the web and social media.I'd bet, even as we speak, that any picture that appears on SM with someone holding a gun, is flagged and sent to start (or add to) the individual's dossier.

Why haven’t we gone to WAR! with Mexico?

The left uses this - almost.
They say, "SINCE you have a firearm - you can't be trusted..."
