Federal Judge Dabney Friedrich struck down on Wednesday the national eviction moratorium, potentially leaving millions of Americans at risk of losing their homes two months earlier than expected.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has banned most evictions across the country since September. The protection slated to expire at the end of January, but President Joe Biden has extended it, first until April, and later through June.
Some 1 in 5 renters across the U.S. are behind on their payments amid the coronavirus pandemic, and states are scrambling to disburse more than $45 billion in rental assistance.

Good. Lots of deadbeats are about to hit the brick wall of reality. Your last 12 months of rent is due Monday.
FINALLY - a courageous judge! Sad that, nowadays, it takes courage to rule against tyranny.
“The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has banned most evictions across the country since September”
When in the hell did the CDC ever get that authority???
I am kind of ready for the coming, and necessary, market adjustment as well.
This was an illegal taking of real property by the government. They had ZERO authority in law to do this. There should be a statute that imprisons government officials for doing things like this which are so far beyond the constitution to be laughable.
If they aren't paying rent or mortgage, then those aren't their homes.
What a concept!
It didn't. Hence the ruling.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has banned most evictions across the country since September.
I’d like to see where they were granted the authority to do this, LOL! They have none.
I’d bet 90% of the people behind on their rent/mortgage weren’t even affected by the covid. They just quit paying because they could and what the hell they had other stuff to spend it on!
I run a new car dealership, a bunch of the lenders gave them a pass on payments, so naturally the 550 credit score crowd quit paying, so even with a hot used market they’re too far upside down to trade it. The 750 credit people amazingly were unaffected by covid! Still making house payments and car payments no matter what line of work they are in.
Thank God and I say this as a renter.
If you can’t evict you don’t have property. You are just a government housing agent.
Exactly. The CDC has no such authority. I don’t think any Govt agency does, frankly.
What? Laws for law makers?
I have one exactly 12 months behind, waiting on Alabama ERA to approve payment.
> When in the hell did the CDC ever get that authority??? <
That’s more than just odd. It’s chilling. If the CDC can regulate evictions, I suppose they can regulate just about anything.
As a side note, I’m planning to work on my car later on today - I’m gonna change the engine oil. But I wonder if that’s even legal anymore. I’d better check with the CDC first.
Agreed.
Good. It’s past time to do this. There will be a lot of behind rent tenants stamping their feet in anger, but this is about business, not charity.
“Amendment III
No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.”
The government is not even supposed to be allowed to do this with its own soldiers during peacetime. But illegals and deadbeats are ok?
