Former President George W. Bush told The Dispatch podcast on Friday that if the Republican Party “stands for … White Anglo-Saxon Protestantism, then it’s not going to win anything.”
The Dispatch was launched in 2020 by Never Trump writers, including alumni of the now-defunct Weekly Standard. Bush was interviewed by Sarah Isgur, who served as the spokesperson for the Department of Justice under President Donald Trump, and former Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Steve Hayes.

Great points all around. Yes, it’s absurdly ironic (yet very on brand) that the Bushes would warn against the GOP becoming a bastion of WASPishness... at the very moment when essentially every bastion of WASP culture (Episcopal Church USA, Episcopalian prep schools in New England and beyond, Unitarian/Universalists, Congregationalists, Planned Parenthood USA) is thoroughly aligned with the political and cultural left.
What on earth does he mean? What sense does it make to say that the Republican Party “stands for” those things?

Sociologists use the term "Anglo-Saxon" to include all people of Germanic ancestry, plus non-Germanic Welsh, Highland Scots, and French Huguenots. Even Catholic Germans, Swiss and Austrians are considered Anglo-Saxon. This amalgam of various Western European stock sis then conflated to become the heart of the oppressive, racist, sexist, and homophobic American nation, oppressing blacks and other minorities, along with white Catholics and Jews. All of this is the result of leftist sociology, the mainstreaming of the Frankfurt School and Gramscian cultural warfare.

W invited the homosexuals to to White House garden. Giving the wrong thinking group more politic clout hasn’t helped American culture. W liked to have Billy Graham as a photo op friend. Wasn’t he a wasp? I am a WASP. I even believe my being white and Christian and American are of God’s design, Same for my black neighbor). However, I did vote for Alan Keyes in a primary. I invite people of different races and colors to be in church with me every week. That’s what WASPS do. Where’s George?
