As Tank Battalions Shut Down, Dozens of Marines Are Joining the Army

More than 450 Marines' careers have been affected by a forcewide redesign that launched last year as the Corps reorganizes to take on new threats, sending hundreds into new career fields, early retirement, or even Army tank units.

Commandant Gen. David Berger issued his first annual update to the forcewide redesign he announced in March 2020. The changes center around making the Marine Corps lighter and more expeditionary to take on new threats from sea and ashore.

Tank battalions, bridging companies and law enforcement units were slashed as part of the plan. Marines in those jobs are being told to find new military occupational specialties, or MOSs; consider another service; or opt to end their careers earlier than planned.

"Marines are going to also kill off artillery."

Maybe that's a good thing. Remember the saying, "Most generals are busy planning to fight the last war."

"Marines have their own aviation corp."

A dwindling number of carrier-based F-18s and Cobras/Vipers off an LHD.
With no artillery/armor of their own.

And some day, maybe F-35s?
That's a heck of a lot of aircraft money for close air support.

A-10: "Half your tail is shot off." "Just put some duct tape on it, we can have it airborne again in an hour."

F-35: "There's a smudge on the wing." "Okay, then it's totaled. Insurance will pay for it."

A lighter, expeditionary force, eh?

Looks like they are still active.

It helps that the Brits sold us a ton of engines and spare parts for pennies - they were just Jones'n to dump their harriers. Shame.

I really don’t understand this. In WWII, Japanese armor was pretty poor but the Marines still needed armor to take them on. Do they not think they would need armor to take on the Chinese on some island?

here's some high-level info regarding the reductions.

https://www.stripes.com/news/us/marines-to-reduce-force-by-12-000-decrease-artillery-units-and-get-rid-of-tanks-in-10-years-1.623471

• Infantry battalions will go down to 21 from 24
• Artillery batteries will go to five down from 21
• Amphibious vehicle companies will go down to four from six
• F-35B and F-35C Lightning II fighter squadrons will have less aircraft per unit, from 16 aircraft down to 10.

Looks like the Marines are going back to being amphibious island hoppers..

They are already dismantling the military to make them even easier/totally weak targets for the CIA and foreign and domestic enemies to takeover.

That is another way they have been weakened. Making them use totally hackable, trackable, traceable, etc. BS tech. instead of wires, etc. for communications, etc.
