The worst chlorine shortage the country has ever seen is set to rock this summer’s pool season.
“It’s been a concern for us,” said Cody Saliture, owner of Texas Pool Professionals, which has been in business for 17 years.
The Rockwall, Texas-based company services 200 clients weekly, and Saliture said he recently began to stockpile chlorine tablets. He’s also been looking for different chemicals to keep pools sanitized and his customers happy.
“We’re looking for anything that we can get that we don’t have here in North Texas,” Saliture said. “We’ve been to about six states and 15 cities [for supplies].”
The chlorine shortage is widespread and it will likely worsen — driving chlorine prices even higher — as homeowners start to prep swimming pools for the season. CNBC spoke to pool industry insiders in multiple states — including Florida, Michigan, Nevada and Texas — about the tight supplies, which are expected to blindside pool owners, who are largely unaware of the problem.

When I was growing up, my father had a pool in his back yard. He did not use chlorine. He used atrazine for algae control and oxidation of water in sunlight. Didn’t burn eyes and had no effect in a pool to harm. Factually, a 150-pound adult could drink more than 11,000 gallons of water a day every day for 70 years at proper controlled levels and you still would not reach a level of exposure shown to have any effect in laboratory studies. So much for the chlorine shortage scare.

When I went to B-school so many years ago I learned about the four P's of marketing. The first of which was product. Businesses used to differentiate themselves by the first P - Product. Where's the competition in many companies selling the same crap product made in China at the same price? (Price being another of the four P's.) Another P, place, should be irrelevant due to online shopping. I have no problem with online shopping, but when I buy clothes I need to know that they will fit. Lastly, promotion as been totally f'd up. I could care less about social media influencers and being bombarded with online popup ads. I don't do social media and I use ad blockers. The clothes that I buy need no promotion other than to clearly state the quality, size, and color. An Internet search should suffice. Only faggots and women care about trendy crap and who wears trendy crap.
Quite honestly, much of traditional business education and practices are gone. The idea that the purpose of a business is to increase shareholder wealth is completely gone and replaced with businesses being more concerned with social justice, environmental whacko philosophy, and promoting Marxist, faggot, and gender-confused agendas. Businesses just need to sell a decent product at a decent price while keeping their leftist mouths shut.

Now with the pandemic and all, nobody wears suits and ties anymore - not even in Manhattan. So the LL Bean clothing ended up being a good choice. I haven't bought a business suit in over 10 years which is fine by me as they were so incredibly expensive and if you did not get a bespoken suit, it was basically a waste of money.
Obviously, I have noticed that many people don't wear nice stuff any more. What's with that? I'll use "pride" for a lack of a better word, but it seems so many people, particularly men do not care how they look. That includes being fat. There's a bunch of lard asses running around looking like Abdul the Tent Maker is their tailor. They have no self-respect, and quite honestly when people can't respect themselves they can't respect others.
Women are the same...slobby. We are in midst of moving. I have nice clothing I have not worn for a few years. Course, I’m retired...but going to dinner meant dressing up a bit to me, but now seems can’t much go out...why keep these clothes? NOTE...I have a suit I bought in Paris in 1976...I can still wear it...but where would I wear it these days?
I find it hard to believe that shortages of simple commodities won’t sort themselves out pretty quickly. Forecasting demand is difficult in the best of times, but coming out of a pandemic, with growth exploding thanks to low interest rates and huge government deficits, it’s really hard for goods providers to know how much lumber to cut, etc. But we have plenty of trees, and plenty of sawmills. This will all shake out fine.

Here's an example of what I was writing about. LL Bean Classic Oxford Cloth Shirt Click on the neck sizes and colors to see what limited arm lengths are available. (At least Bean still sells by measured length.) Back to the shortage aspect of the posted article...It would seem that something as basic as a button down oxford that they would have every size and color combination. I also seem to recall that the last time I bought a Bean button down it was about $20 less expensive, but I am not complaining about the price. The dollar isn't worth crap these days and that is not LL Bean's fault.
That is so true. I spent the day at Mohegan Sun yesterday (a casino in Connecticut) and it was amazing (as well as a little depressing) to see what people are willing to wear in public. Especially the women, who generally tend to dress better than men in all circumstances. Some women were literally wearing pajama bottoms and house slippers. Then you had the women who were fully tatted up wearing ratty t-shirts. I still do not understand women and tattoos. They used to restrict themselves (if they had them at all) to ankles and shoulders. Now their entire arms are covered like they are Popeye the Sailor man.
Of course the men are not off the hook either. Pet peeve of mine are grown men who wear sneakers. Now unless you are literally jogging around the neighborhood or dribbling a ball on a basketball court, a grown man should not ever be wearing sneakers! They just make you look like an overgrown kid. Ditto for all the overpriced "official" sports clothing. People with authentic $200 Giants jerseys for instance. Yeah, like you, playing some penny slot machine with your mortgage money, also played for the New York Giants football club! Give me a break. Grow up people.
finally filled in my in-ground pool last year, after sitting unused for a couple of years before that - way too much work and expense and maintenance for the little it actually got used now that the kids are mostly grown.
Don’t miss it one bit personally and given the chance would much rather swim in the ocean.

First, congratulations that you still fit in a suit from 1976. I still have several suits from the 80's from a bespoke on Savile Row when I used to work in London on a regular basis. They still fit, and because they are of a classic cut, they will never go out of style. Granted, dining options are limited these days. Gone are the days that restaurants require a coat and tie. Just imagine having being lent a coat and tie by the maître d' to enter the dining room. How embarrassing. So I just dress up and go to McDonalds so I feel more out of place. (Just kidding. I don't do fast food.)

Ha!My kids are 7 and 9. Thinking of getting 15x40 fiberglass pool with salt water....low maint. Our biggest question is: “Are we going to stay in this house for 10-15 years?”
