Amazon reports profits increased 220% in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period last year – showing the online retailer and marketplace's growing dominance and profitability during the pandemic in which consumers worldwide relied more on internet shopping.
The company on Thursday reported $108 billion in sales and $8.1 billion in profit, equalling the triple-digit percentage increase, for the first three months of 2021.
"We certainly had strong volumes really across all of our businesses," said Amazon’s finance chief, Brian Olsavsky, according to The New York Times.
The high volume of orders during the pandemic has let Amazon run its warehouses at near full capacity. During the pandemic, drivers have made more stops to customers than before, with data showing they're spending less time driving between customers, showing more people are using their delivery services.
The reports say that the pandemics shift to remote computing also helped sales. Amazon reported its web services has $13.5 billion in sales for the quarter.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is considered the most wealth person in the world, with an estimated network of $201 billion.
Last month, workers at an Amazon warehouse in Alabama voted against forming a union, amid employee complaints across the country about general working conditions and those during the pandemic including health and safety, long-hours, and few breaks.
The 26-year-old company is the United States' second-largest employer, employs more than 950,000 full- and part-time workers in the country and nearly 1.3 million worldwide, according to the Associated Press.
I’ve been able to switch my whole family away from buying from Amazon.
It wasn’t hard to do.

Did you have to promise that you yourself would get them what they want delivered to their door in 2-3 days?
There’s a longer list of Ike-like POTUS’s and their warnings.
JFK - “Shatter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds”
Reagan - Grace Commission report’s finding that not a nickle of IRS 1040 income goes to any (ANY!) government program.
And much of Trump’s statements has some element of recognition of how deep the Deep State is.
Since JFK, at minimum, both Bushes, 0bama, Clintoons are all part of the Deep State Cabal, effectively CEO of the Corporation of Corruption based in the District of Corruption.
Washington post.
Millions in election money spread around.
Constant attacks on Trump.

All nice, but…
SSDs? Books? Gadgets? Clothes?
Shipping overseas?
“Bezos is rich enough to tell them to take a hike.”
Sorry, no. Please see what the CCP is currently doing to Jack Ma. Keep in mind that the current crew of Democrats look at China as a role model.
Mad at them. Now they aren’t delivering prime to me in 2 days hardly. During the lockdown and after I was getting things faster than I have been the last 2 weeks.
“I remember the old Sears catalog. It was fun at Christmas time.”
My Mother, Sister and I lived for the Sears Christmas, Spring, Summer and fall catalogs.
We had a Sears and Monkey Ward store where I basically grew up. The independent hardware guy carried fly fishing gear, guns and ammo. I made a deal with him, if he matched Sears’ or Wards’ price, I would buy from him. I continued to buy from him through college and after my marriage. I could safely order fishing gear for my Dad. My mother would pick it up and give to him on his birthday, Father’s Day and Christmas. I have the last fly rod, we bought him in my office mounted over the window.
My Dad loved JCP’s sweaters and casual pants. We ordered those for him, and after he died, I ended with those still in good order. His favorite charity, the Salvation Army got the rest.
My mother taught me how to get the best price on a lot of items. Show the merchant a lower price. If they matched it, you bought it.
Amazon does that now, when I look at basically any item on line from Walmart, Home Depot, Costco or whom ever. They show the delivered price from Amazon in the upper right computer screen. We have zero independent merchants in our market area for what we want and need.
With our prime card we get 5% back to apply to future purchases.
Also, Amazon has contributed close to $600’s to our Church as their donation to charities.
thankfully, we also have impulse control. If something ocassionally takes 3-5 days, its not the end of the world
Amazon vans look like cockroaches.
Sorry, but *cough cough* bullshit. I know of several white collar workers who work for Amazon.
Depends. For those who can’t complete. Best Buy turned things around. And Costco is packed every time i go there.
You win. I’ll stop shopping with Amazon because of the p.o.s compost that was a p.o.s. paper before Bezos bought them.
I stopped buying from them. I’ll pay more from someone else.
They hired my kid about a year ago. Not a fulfillment job.
Yep. Ordered my first book, Unlimited Access, from them in 1996 back when they were “Earth’s Biggest Bookstore”. I knew they were going to be big. Ditto, Apple when it’s stock was a paltry $18 a share. Desperately wanted to invest in both. Knew what was coming, but at the time I was far too poor to buy more than a token few shares so I passed. Oh what could have been...
:>)
Now that made me laugh!
Sorry, but *cough cough* bullshit. I know of several white collar workers who work for Amazon.

Amazon’s pipeline for IT/ software engineers runs through Indian recruiters and Indian body shops. Impossible for Americans to bypass these gate keepers. They must have hired before Amazon decided to outsource hiring to Indian body shops.
Sometimes that’s necessary to keep a monopoly in check. I’ve no doubt that if all competition disappears, that prices will go through the roof. Who would be there to stop them?
Did you have to promise that you yourself would get them what they want delivered to their door in 2-3 days?

Would you pay double for the same items not ordered through Amazon?
With international shipping and customs duties, it’s often that, with a 1 or 2 week customs hold while each item is manually opened and inspected.
Amazon must pay off governments to let its packages sail through customs.
I stopped buying from them. I’ll pay more from someone else.

Would you pay double?
