Amazon reports profits increased 220% in the first three months of this year, compared to the same period last year – showing the online retailer and marketplace's growing dominance and profitability during the pandemic in which consumers worldwide relied more on internet shopping.
The company on Thursday reported $108 billion in sales and $8.1 billion in profit, equalling the triple-digit percentage increase, for the first three months of 2021.
"We certainly had strong volumes really across all of our businesses," said Amazon’s finance chief, Brian Olsavsky, according to The New York Times.
The high volume of orders during the pandemic has let Amazon run its warehouses at near full capacity. During the pandemic, drivers have made more stops to customers than before, with data showing they're spending less time driving between customers, showing more people are using their delivery services.
The reports say that the pandemics shift to remote computing also helped sales. Amazon reported its web services has $13.5 billion in sales for the quarter.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is considered the most wealth person in the world, with an estimated network of $201 billion.
Last month, workers at an Amazon warehouse in Alabama voted against forming a union, amid employee complaints across the country about general working conditions and those during the pandemic including health and safety, long-hours, and few breaks.
The 26-year-old company is the United States' second-largest employer, employs more than 950,000 full- and part-time workers in the country and nearly 1.3 million worldwide, according to the Associated Press.
From Townhall 2 weeks ago about the cozy government/corporation relationship:
“They’re referred to today as “woke” for objecting to election integrity reforms, but that’s not it. They’re not woke - which is really just a trendy, polite word for fascism. Yes, they’re Democrat voters but more than that they’re terrified. They’ll do what they must to stay on Democrats’ good side just to protect their operations from within. “
Absolute brutal to work at fulfillment centers unless you are 20 years old and built like a linebacker. But that’s the only jobs available for Americans while Amazon outsources most of its white-collar work to India or brings in H1Bs by the planeload to fill white-collar positions in the USA.
Hate Amazon. But they are the only game in town.
Funny how that works.
I joked when this all started, that when COVID is over we’ll all be working for Amazon, I may not be that far off.
Thats the “only jobs available for Americans”? ALL new American jobs are at Amazon? Wow.
For the most part, you’re right. The new Walmart+ can work well, depending on what you’re ordering.
And going direct to some companies works well. Ebay works.
So, to fight a monopoly, the only way is ultimately to buy elsewhere at least some of the time.
I now see their tractor trailer trucks everywhere. It's getting to the point where they will soon outnumber all the other tractor trailers.
I’ve argued for a while now that China is actually fascist. In many ways, it doesn’t matter what the label is, I suppose.
I agree with Townhall. Woke = Fascist. Prove me wrong.
Stop buying from Amazon - they hate you
Yep. Same here.
I thought it was a solid quote.
I’ve been able to switch my whole family away from buying from Amazon.
It wasn’t hard to do.
We went to a brick and mortar yesterday, JC Penny.
The section my wife wanted to see used to be the largest in our metro area. Now it’s just a shell of itself. There was a single Penny’s rep on the entire floor, I don’t think. She found some stuff online, and wanted to actually feel the texture.
No people there, so she went home and ordered it online. Is that the plan? The brick and mortar is now just a display room???
The most advanced logistics firm in the history of man.
Nobody else come close, though some are trying.
I remember having the thought that I should buy “a little” of their stock when they were still losing money every minute of every day. That was 1999.
Their IPO was at $18 in 97 or 98.
Three splits and 20 years later it sells for $3,500 per share.
Talk about missing the boat...
Wait until Uncle Joe raises their taxes and pushes an union down their throats.
Their prior contributions in an effort to be spared will not work.
I've been a member since 1998 when it was strictly into books. Bezos was genius in expanding Amazon to what it is today.
Amazon provides a platform for hundreds of small retail businesses to sell their products as well. You know, that thing known as 'Capitalism'?
Additionally, Amazon also has an endless list of charities/organizations to which you can have donations made when you purchase anything. The list includes many conservative organizations: i.e. NRA, Pro-life, Tunnel to Towers, Wounded Warrior, Hillsdale college etc. etc.
So...I'm not going to slam them as some others seem so intent on doing. Service is key and they are top-notch.
Thats the “only jobs available for Americans”? ALL new American jobs are at Amazon? Wow.

I was taking about Amazon.
While white-collar work is given to Indians, blue-collar fulfillment center and truck driving are really the only jobs from Americans at Amazon.
The same Deep State Cabal behind both.
