Americans have had two extremely similar authorized COVID-19 vaccines since December: one mRNA vaccine from Pfizer, and another mRNA vaccine from Moderna.
But now, there is another coronavirus shot authorized for use across the US: Johnson & Johnson's adenovirus jab, which got a green light from the US Food and Drug Administration on Saturday after an expert committee unanimously recommended on Friday evening that it should receive emergency-use authorization.
In trials around the world, J&J's shot was shown to be 66% effective at preventing coronavirus infections altogether, and 85% effective at preventing severe COVID-19 cases, when given four weeks to take effect.
Taken at face value, that may not appear as good as Moderna's or Pfizer's two-shot vaccines, both of which had efficacy better than 94% in their 2020 trials.

McClellan, Redding and Oakland.
One shot, fewer side effects and some efficacy against all variants because it generates a T-cell response.
I’m not certain about Moderna, but I do know that Pfizer’s vaccine triggers broad immune response including TH1 type CD4+ T cells, and strong expansion of CD8+ T cells.
Pfizer ran two separate products through Phase 1 clinical trials and Phase 2 clinical trials: BNT162b1 and BNT162b2. They had to pick one to run through Phase 3 clinical trials (because those are way too expensive to run twice), and they chose BNT162b2 specifically because of the T cell response.

J&J has been discredited since then. Why post it?
What am I missing here? The JnJ already was available, then ‘paused’, now available again. Article is from March 1. Post date is April 28.
Not that I’d EVER trust anything from “Business” “Insider”.
That’s interesting. I have had a lot of questions about why 2 shots. That’s an angle I hadn’t thought of.

Assuming the 66% and 85% figures for J&J’s vaccine are correct, the comparable percentages for the mRNA vaccines are 90% and “near 100%”.
This March 1st article might have been correct in stating that “you can’t pick your vaccine” at the time it was published. But in most areas of the country you CAN now pick which vaccine you want. Folks can pick the J&J vaccine if that’s the one they want.
GFYS
It has not been discredited and is known to have fewer side effects than the mRNA vaccines.
Women on birth control pills should avoid it, due to the clotting issue.
I picked. Wouldn’t take Phizer or Moderna. Just held out until somebody offered J&J. Took it about 1:30 PM on the Monday they later paused its use. I had no problems, except I felt a little puny the next day for a while. It has been cleared for use again.
“GFYS”
What does that mean?
Because J&J uses a different technology, would it make sense to get BOTH J&J and Moderna or J&J and Pfizer? I wonder if they play well with each other and are synergistic.
