There are really only about fifty plot lines for drama since early Greek times. The Greeks used one that Western Civilization has never used, but give it time.

However, now, when you click on the TV to watch entertainment, there are some new ones. One show heralds multiculturalism, go to another show and it is about diversity, next, inclusion, then cultural cancellation, then Critical Race theory. That is why entertainment is in the toilet, and a witness that mainstream American culture is not as wounded, or woke, as it is made out to be by the leftist media and education.

My Brit husband always asks my source when I tell him about an article that I read on FR. If it’s the Daily Mail, he scoffs. When we lived there we paid for delivery of the Daily Mail. Yes, Brits do think it’s trash now.

But in all fairness to Hollyweird, there were no blockbuster movies last year because of COVID shutting down all of the theaters, so I’m surprised they even had an Oscars program this year.

The Oscars has always been an exercise in self-congratulation since the first one in 1929. The difference is, back then it was an insider-only affair where all the Hollywood stars gathered without the public watching it.

“The expense of importing sheetrock from China was less than the expense to make it in Ohio”

The cheapness of transporting goods halfway around the world has made a mess of things.

“The Times” is a good read...

Yes, Brits do think it's trash now.

Depends on which Brits you are talking to. The Daily Mail is not even close to the National Enquirer when it comes to trashiness. And Pierce Morgan for all his faults, is not a trashy National Enquirer type journalist.
And by the way, I did live in the UK and read the Daily Mail for years.

Tried to watch that movie but the sight of an old woman peeing by the side of the road was too much.

The Times is ok, but then not as conservative as one would like. Owned by Murdoch.

You realize that the self-proclaimed elites will simply write off that collapse in ratings as Trump's fault. Because of him and his influence, we're all just uneducated racist, homophobic rubes that don't recognize their brilliance.

Not satire. I'm expecting that line of horse manure any moment.

British don’t care about who gets beat up in America. I asked him what he would recommend as a better source and I didn’t get an answer. I tried to think about an alternative to the DM and I couldn’t really think of one. The Guardian? The Express? There really isn’t a standout paper in the UK.

There are still a zillion stories in the press about it for people to read, so they still get their reach.

I’m fine with that. But the ultimate reality is that at some point, advertisers will quit paying for their BS, theater owners will not pay to run their junk.

That's a wonderful graphic to see. It shows clearly how increasingly irrelevant the Hollywood crowd is to the rest of us. I'm old enough to remember (back in the 1970s) when these award shows were major events and ordinary people would host "Oscar" or "Grammy" parties in their homes, where people would gather to watch together while snacking on jello molds and pretzels while sipping on wine or Lowenbrau beer.

They even had this prime time show back then called "Battle Of The Network Stars" in which you would have for instance, Farrah Fawcett in a tug of war with Penny Marshall and silly stuff like that. TV Guide was the number one selling magazine in the country.

But back in those days, celebrities were mostly humble at these award shows. They thanked their fans, graciously accepted the trophy, and walked off the stage.

Somewhere along the line, they got a little big-headed and started proclaiming their virtues in these acceptance speeches. Suddenly we were hearing about the plight of the Indians, the Kurds, the starving people Africa and whatnot. They began assuming that they were more noble and important than the rest of us peons watching at home and that we needed to be lectured to. Then they'd crawl back into their limos with their champagne and party on the rest of the night.

So I'm glad America has tuned these blowhards out.

Old Hollywood is crumbling. Quality movies come to us from other nations and from independent studios. Quality content is being created by regular people and put out on YouTube and such.

It is at the point where none of us need "network" television anymore or any traditional media for that matter. So many more options out there. A lifetime of older movies to explore. There are literally thousands of great movies made prior to say 1980, that are worth seeing. Go on YouTube and you can lose yourself among the billions (yes billions) of videos that do not consist of big-headed celebrities acting self-important.

I’ve only read about the Oscars after they were over. I am surprised they can get 9 million to tune in.

the most unwatchable Academy Awards in history

And they are supposed to be in the business of world class entertaining productions. How odd.

What next, News media outlets that don't provide any news, but offer only corrupt lies and leftist activism?
