Colorado cops LAUGH about breaking arm and dislocating shoulder of dementia-suffering woman
Daily Mail ^ | April 26 | By MEGAN SHEETS

Shocking new video shows two Colorado cops under investigation for their violent arrest of an elderly women with dementia laughing and cheering - and giving each other a fist bump - as they watched body-camera footage of the altercation hours later.

They were celebrating all while the 73-year-old woman was suffering in a jail cell, the photos reveal - disheveled and seeming to lose consciousness several times.

Loveland Police Officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali arrested Karen Garner on June 26, 2020, after she left Walmart without paying for a candy bar, a can of Pepsi and a t-shirt totaling $13.38.

City officials haven't apologized to the woman or her family, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald. The footage of the arrest went viral on social media after its release earlier the month in the wake of a new lawsuit against the department.

The suit says during the first hour Garner was in custody, she said: 'They hurt my shoulders' 22 times and 'They hurt my wrists' 13 times. She wasn't given any medical treatment.

A statement from the attorney representing Garner in a federal civil rights lawsuit against the department said supervising officer, Sgt. Phil Metzler, who also is under investigation, knew Garner was injured and allowed her to be kept in a holding pen with no care.

It goes back to a good Friend of his, a Freeper who got depressed and shot himself. I think it destroyed his mentality and he can’t see straight anymore.

So, you think it’s OK for a 240 pound muscle bound gorilla to body slam an 80 pound 73 year old woman just because he wears a badge, huh!

Hope no municipality is ever stupid enough to give you one!!

That’s tragic. Thanks for the info. I’ll pray for him rather than fight with him from now on.

So they're not sorry for arresting her for shoplifting.
Free cokes and candy bars for everyone!
Just grab what you want, right?

It is said that she is also a Marxist-Leninist troll who gets her kicks trolling conservative websites like FR!

I support cops too generally, at least local police for what they do and the danger they put themselves in for what is a low salary.

I don’t support the “defund the police” movement even though I’m a libertarian.

The exception is the FBI and the fed departments. I would support defunding/abolishing those!

That said there are so many stories about police brutality (especially no knock warrants etc) they must be lowering the standard for hiring and consequently more bad apples.

I know the feeling! I’m 72 now and leaving what happens next up to God. In the meantime, like you, I’m going through the house, opening boxes, and getting rid of a lifetime of “stuff,” a lot to orgs like Goodwill, some directly to the trash. I’ve emptied out 22 large totes in the past year and will make another sweep to sort and label what’s left. Right now I’m in reasonably good health, though still recovering from cancer surgery six weeks ago. Once I’m more on my feet I’ll go at it again so my brother, who is my heir, won’t have to deal with a complete mess when I shuffle off this mortal coil.

When you listen to that video, those cops lied abut whether she was injured to a superior. They KNEW she was injured lied.laughed and let her sit in that horrible holding cell for six hours before someone addressed the issue.

I am not a believer that all cops are mean, but this kind of thing gives cops a bad name.

That said, where I live there is an old lady with dementia that manages to get loose once in a while. She wanders around and usually ends up at a local CVS. People there call the cops to make sure she gets home. They treat her nicely and talk to the family. They don’t bully and manhandle her. There was no excuse for this at all.

Those cops could have maybe got away with this until we listened to that video. That was damning and showed their arrogance.

I am under no impressions. The womans family is scum and will show up to sue. Its easier than working or taking care of mom. If it was my mom she would have been taken care of. Unless she was so combative she needed to be institutionalized. She would never have been left alone. Therefore tye cops would have never gotten their hands on her.

my point is if you do t let yourself get 8 to these situations, these things do t happen. , We dont do things to attract the cops attention and we dont feed bears marshmallows off our lips . *Wink at SNL* Dan Ackroid.

My father in law, who is currently living with us, has dementia. The moderate stage went on for years, but the advanced stage is happening very quickly. Families don’t always realize where they are cognitively unless they live with them. And things can change on a dime.

When he didn’t live here, we could easily have missed the downturn because he was still so functional, cooking, cleaning, taking his meds, all things he did by “rote” memory - but the lack of reason and short-term memory is a recipe for disaster no matter how functional they appear.

The cops were wrong. Period. Otoh the family should have kept a better eye on her. My father also went down hill quick with dementia. The second time he was called to the house because he fell during the night the first responders sent him To the hospital and they found him racked with cancer. He never went home again. He went to assisted living his last 2 years. . We took care of him and made sure he was never “ let out” alone. He seemed to find people to ram with his electric scooter.NOT NORMAL for a guy who would volunteer to help anyone, even at 80 y.o. !. they took that scooter away too. He could get combative , thank God the responders got him calmed down and the state trooper was firm but polite enough to get him into the ambulance.
