Delta Airlines and the Irony of Corporate Wokism
Townhall.com ^ | April 25, 2021 | Jeff Davidson

I have been a lifelong member of the Delta Airlines frequent flyer program. I have flown on Delta Airlines across the United States and around the world more than 200 times. For many flights, I was able to use frequent flyer miles and not have to pay anything more than a processing fee.

It pains me to see Delta Airlines jump into the leftist mire over fair and lawful voting procedures. Of late, Delta Airlines has declared that the state of Georgia's recent legislation to install safeguards in the state's voting procedures is somehow limiting the vote, discriminatory, and unfair to minorities.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Delta Airlines itself requires a government issued ID to board any one of their planes, 24/7, 365 days a year, for all the years they've been in business.

Delta Airlines: So Wrong

Do they realize that most minorities are insulted by the notion that they lack the wherewithal to obtain proper ID? Does Delta know that among all races, a majority of Americans agree that safeguarding the integrity of elections is more important than making it easier to vote? Is the CEO of Delta and is their Board aware of the irony of declaring Georgia's legislation to be discriminatory?

Probably not: to perceive irony, one first has to have some semblance of logic. If you cannot board a plane without legitimate government-issued ID, why in the world should you ever be allowed to vote in America?

As a corporation, does Delta regard itself as discriminatory because it requires all passengers to show a government-issued ID? If this overly woke corporation was serious about the quest for no ID in election voting, would they not alter their own rules (and the rules of the Federal Aviation Administration) related to boarding their commercial flights?

Why, exactly, does Delta forbid everyone, include pilots, flight crew, and ground crew to board their planes without ID? What could be the problem? Surely they're not concerned about safety, or the legitimacy of ticket sales, or passengers not being who they claim to be, right?

Minimizing Voter Suppression

If Delta is willing to forgo ID when allowing passengers to board their planes, then and only then, they can make statements about the state of Georgia's attempt to secure free and fair elections.

Ensuring that the potential for fraud in elections is minimized is not about discrimination. It is about ensuring that everyone’s lawful vote is duly counted.

To not require voter ID in elections is a form of voter suppression. How so? Suppose I am a lawful voter, and I vote in the same election as people who are not required to show ID. Any non-citizen or illegal voter, in essence, can suppress my vote with their vote.

If I vote for candidate A, and a non-qualified voter illegally casts a vote for candidate B, my vote is neutralized, actually suppressed. Someone who should not have been voting renders my vote as meaningless.

The Indelible Responsibility

Georgia, similar to all other states, has the vital and indelible responsibility to protect my vote and the vote of every other lawful voter. To do less is to suppress the vote of lawful voters. How hard is that to understand? At every level of government, if a jurisdiction is lax in its efforts to ensure that only lawful votes are counted, de facto, they are promulgating voter suppression.

Why does virtually every other country on Earth require a government issued ID before one can vote in their respective elections? How is it that among nations around the globe, the United States has become lax? Why is the United States, supposedly the bedrock of democracy, now among the handful of nations whose elections are looked upon with scorn?

Who exactly has a vested interest in diminishing the potential for free and fair elections? Could it be a political party that fears, or more accurately knows, that it could not win elections if it were not for fraud?

Bye Bye, So Long

So Delta Airlines, as much as I prefer otherwise, I'm going to reverse a three decade-long trend, and seek to board other airlines when they can conveniently fly me to my chosen destination.

Until you wake up, and that means stop participating in this woke version of corporate extortion, you must suffer the consequences accordingly. You are not contributing to free and fair elections and are not strengthening our representative democracy. You are bringing it down, and you are doing so in a way that could become permanent.

Shame on Delta Airlines, Coca-Cola, Disney World, and all of the woke corporations who have abandoned any semblance of integrity, rectitude, and, need I say it, patriotism.

Woke corporations don’t care about the consequences of their actions, in the end the execs still get paid regardless of outcome.

DITTO - Same here multi million miler and that doesn’t mean anything anymore when the so called ‘leadership of a company can become so ‘dumb’ or think it’s customer’s are so dumb to believe their lying statements / reasoning for making such one sided - totally wrong comments about the voting laws proposed in GA. Someone has them over a barrel or something else is at play - but honesty is one of the things Delta is expressing in it’s posturing by taking these positions! BYE DELTA! You are no longer safe to fly with the logic you are currently using!
