Before Ohio House Republicans put the final touches on their version of the state budget approved this week, they stripped out many of Gov. Mike DeWine’s top priorities.
It was just the latest example of the legislature’s lack of deference to DeWine, who’s ostensibly the leader of the state party and heading into what could be a tough re-election campaign year in 2022.
DeWine had included in his budget proposal a package of legislation that he designed to reduce gun violence. The changes would have toughened reporting requirements for the system used to run background checks on gun buyers and strengthened penalties for certain violent gun-related crimes. DeWine first introduced the proposals in 2019, following a deadly mass shooting in Dayton, but the legislature wouldn’t advance them. DeWine tried again through the state budget, and GOP lawmakers dumped the provisions last week.
They also removed a request from DeWine to spend $50 million on a tourism campaign promoting Ohio, particularly to people who may consider moving here from more expensive areas of the country. Promoting Ohio as a destination has been a pet project for DeWine since he took office in January 2019. DeWine plugged the provision during a news conference announcing his budget plan, during which he memorably referred to Ohio as a “progressive state.” But that proposal was killed, too.
In a slap at the governor’s coronavirus safety orders, the House budget bill also would force the DeWine administration to refund fines issued against bars and other restaurants for COVID-19 safety violations, and also would reinstate liquor licenses for bars that lost them for the same reason.....
While DeWine didn’t ask for it, the operating budget bill includes a 2% income-tax cut....

For your consideration.
Pretty much everything on my wish list, except for impeaching the SOB.
If I bother to vote at all in 2022, it will be, in large part, to support Mike DeWine. I used to hate the guy like Mitt Romney but I think he did a great job with Covid here in Ohio. When I look at how bad things are in Michigan, 2 minutes away from me, I am just fine with Mike DeWine and Ohio’s extremely conservative legislature is exactly what the state needs to temper any kind of commie gun control BS.
Republican “lockdown” governors are political zombies. Republicans will not even elect them as dogcatchers.
You have Stockholm syndrome.
He might as well run as a Democrat because the Republicans aren’t asking this guy back for anything.
I don’t normally feel inclined to defend politicians. I don’t care for most of them. But I think DeWine has done fine and by signing SB175, he has significantly improved his previously dismal NRA rating. I’ll vote for him and I’m not at all interested in replacing him with Jim Renacci who I have supported in the past but I would not support him in something like this. Furthermore, we need republican stability in Ohio going into 2024 and not just for Ohio’s sake. If we’re going to bother fighting this commmie revolution, we need to maintain the status quo in Ohio. There’s no room for petty BS.
Are you kidding me? He was the first to lock us down and imprison us in our houses. He abused his power and took away our rights to decide for ourselves what is best for us.
He doesn’t deserve the right to be re-elected.
You obviously care nothing about the Constitution. Because DeWine took away your rights in Ohio, and if you don’t care about that...then he’s the perfect candidate.
But you are going to vote for a man who stripped Ohioians of their rights and ruined his economy...all because of a fake pandemic. But you don’t fear him. No , because he’s not a communist. He just has communistic tendencies, and you are going to reward those tendencies by voting him back into office.
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.

DeWhine is much too tight with the old Kasich/Boehner/Portman party machine that as been suppressing true Conservative Republicans here for years. Trump did very well in Ohio, and they hate that.
DeWhine has already got primary opponents lining up, and I for one will work to see a Conservative running in the general election.
Last election DeWhine promised us that he would sign Constitutional Carry if it got to his desk, then worked hard to see that it didn’t.
At one point during the height of the WuFlu lockdown his health dept. flat-out prohibited any doctor from using Ivermectin or the HCQ cocktail, despite all the evidence that both are safe and effective. My own doctor was livid. They finally did lift the ban, but how many people died unnecessarily???
BTW in my rural county, his mask edict was widely ignored.
Ahhh, I knew it. COVID. Loving DeWhine and comparing him favorably to Gretchen Hitler just goes to show that Covid is not the only thing you are 100% ass-backwards on.
Like I say, if I bother to vote at all in 2022, I’ll vote for him.
Bush is looking for people like you to vote in more RINOs that will vote to import more illegal aligns, just like the Senator from Texas - John Cornyn who is looking to help the illegals become U.S. citizens
I’m not going to be blackmailed into voting. if they want to flood this country with mexicans, let ‘em. I truly don’t care anymore. I have voted GOP for 25 years and I have been betrayed for 25 years. Failure to pass any kind of meaningful pro-2A legislation when we had the means to do so was the last straw. I’m not over it.
I have never been impressed by DeWhiner’s priorities.
