The Department of Justice is investigating whether they will now charge Derek Chauvin over a 2017 incident where he knelt on a black 14-year-old boy's neck for nearly 17 minutes.
A source told ABC News that the Justice Department is probing whether to now bring federal charges against Chauvin for the 2017 arrest and the one involving Floyd.
Federal prosecutors had witnesses testify before a grand jury two months ago regarding the 2017 incident.
The DOJ probe is still ongoing and the Minneapolis Police Department recently was briefed on it.
Chauvin, who is white, has never faced any charges over the 2017 arrest.

What next? He got three extra issues of Esquire before the refusal card reached them to cancel the automatic renewal?
The investigation of the police department was the goal that BLM announced immediately after the decision.
Find the nearest Republican and blame them.
“I really didn’t think they would bother with three guilty state verdicts already in.”
They really shouldn’t bother with three guilty state verdicts already in. These states need to act more like Gov. DeSantis and let them know they can run their own states just fine. There are plenty of corrupt Dems for the DOJ to focus on, such as the Biden crime family.
“This whole thing looks as fake as the covid scare.”
Doesn’t the statute of limitations apply here? And where is this angelic 14-year old today? Serving time somewhere? Too often when we hear some heart-string-pulling story like this, it turns out to be some ne’er-do-well person with a rap sheet. But maybe I’m just getting desensitized to all of this.
Just nail him to the friggin’ cross already, geez!
= = =
Nancy already nailed George up there.
At the same time it shows he was following established procedure, no?
The bottomless bucket of money possessed by the feds never ceases to amaze me.
FTR I could care less about Chauvin...he's kind of an idiot....but that trial was a total fraud...
I assume Minneapolis is like Portland. Lawless.
Yes,
Therein is the problem.
All of these government agencies and departments get used in the political games/maneuvers.
People have this “belief,” some sort of “faith,” that somehow organizations that get funded by the the government and are concerned about their own growth and agenda (how do we get a bigger budget, scope and people), where the senior leaders are all hand picked and political hacks (often with little actual subject matter expertise), are somehow objective, pragmatic, science based - that they are ethical and “do the right thing” when it comes down to it.
Of course that isn’t the case.
The VA under Clinton took millions and funneled them for AIDS research. That didn’t help amputees much, nor those getting older less effective and with high side effect meds, waiting in line for cancer treatments or diagnostics, but it did allow him to claim that he did something for the gay community. Do you really think Fauci is basing everything on “science?” Hahahaha
BTW- how many people did the DOJ save and protect when they gave them criminal felony records years past for pot? Why was pot even made illegal? Nixon wanted to take a swipe at his political opposition and hippies, beatniks, blacks and Latino’s used this. It was a way to “criminalize” and “delegitimize” his political opposition, no differently than what happened during and after 6 January but the other way around with the “insurrection.”
The problem is that people don’t see it. They are compliant. They have been taught to equate blind adherence to being a good citizen, patriotic, and ethical. They do not equate the massive expanse of government both in size and scope to their loss of liberty and privacy, massive corruption (corporate/government collusion), and these idiotic and dork games played by government and the politicians leading it. People forget that government is a political beast, and guess what that means for the things they administer/manage/control???
