CDC and FDA leaning toward resuming Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine, sources say

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration are leaning toward resuming use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine with a warning about blood clots, sources told CBS News. A decision is expected Friday, more than a week after the vaccine's distribution was paused following reports of rare but dangerous blood clots in eight people under the age of 50.

"I think too many people may be scared off by taking the vaccine. They shouldn't be, but perception is everything when it comes to vaccines," said Dr. Peter Hotez, who works at the Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development.

The decision comes as the fight against the coronavirus may have reached a crossroads. Long waits for shots are now giving way to empty vaccination sites as vaccine supply is expected to soon outpace demand. Some mass vaccinations sites are now allowing walk-ins and drive-ups for anyone — no appointment necessary — to get shots in as many arms as possible.

"We're about at the point where any American who wants to get a vaccine can get a vaccine, and that's what you need to get to that 80% threshold for when life can resume back to normal," Hotez said.

More than 135 million Americans — 40% of the population — have received at least one COVID-19 shot. But vaccinations are lagging in the deep South and parts of the Midwest. Nationwide, there was an 11% week-over-week drop.

Some areas are refusing vaccine shipments. More than 60 of the 105 counties in Kansas turned them down this week because they would go unused.

"If you look at the lowest vaccination rates in the country right now, they're overwhelmingly red states," Hotez said.

Walk ins and no appointments. You could get as many and different types of Wuhan vaccinations as you want now. You could accumulate the cards as a collection.

Because it’s as close to a conventional vaccine as you can currently get, it’s not mRNA and it’s based on 30+ year old technology?

I got the J&J vaccine - you could not pay me to get the mRNA ones. There’s a lot of people that are waiting for J&J vaccinations to resume.

Children shouldn’t be getting the vaccine, Peter!

After working in Hazmat for much of my career... I sometimes had up to a dozen vaccines in a year. I never had any problems with any of them and these were serious vaccines for serious ailments. I would be more than happy to take another vaccine for something that was an actual threat to my health.

I and it turns out that most of my former co-workers want nothing to do with any of the Covid vaccines for a variety of reasons. The coercion and the suppression of information about side effects up to and including death are strong incentives to forget about it. But mostly the pathogen is so mild with such a low death rate for most people who have no health issues, plus it is contagious enough that by now most of us have had some low level exposures and have already developed an immune response. Sorry, but taking experimental vaccines because you have been terrorized by the media and politicians is asking for trouble.

I got J&J too. So did my husband. So will my college age son (CA is now requiring it for college).

I suspect many men—many people—just want to make an appt once, not twice, and get the sore arm once, not twice. And take a more traditional vaccine.

I refuse to take an experimental jab for a virus with a survival rate of 99.74%. I’ll take my chances with Covid.

I would be fine with a multidose regimen if required, but I am not okay with the unproven mRNA technology. I work in IT and the rule is that you should *never* be an early adopter of a new tech if you can avoid it unless you would like some potentially nasty surprises.

I did my research into all the available or ‘soon to be approved’ options and concluded that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was the best option.

Actual traditional (killed/weakened virus) vaccines have been developed independently in both China and India and neither actually seem to work in reality; the Johnson & Johnson one is closest to a traditional vaccine, uses proven well debugged tech and it seems to work as advertised in field tests. The same tech is responsible for the first ebola vaccine that works to the point of getting regular medical regulatory approval.

Because the vaccine can be manufactured using conventional processes that already exist. It also can be stored and transported at normal refrigeration temperatures not cryothermal temperatures. It will especially be useful in tropical countries like much of South America and Africa that lack the infrastructure for super cold chain transport and storage of mRNA vaccines.

Folks filled with an irrational hysterical fear have been vaccinated
Fear mongers have too much supply

J&J will be sidelined in favor of the other criminal corrupt drug companies

never trust a government that opens its border and distributes thousands of disease carrying invaders across its country during a so called global pandemic...
