The law enforcement arm of the U.S. Postal Service has been quietly running a program that tracks and collects Americans’ social media posts, including those about planned protests, according to a document obtained by Yahoo News.
The details of the surveillance effort, known as iCOP, or Internet Covert Operations Program, have not previously been made public. The work involves having analysts trawl through social media sites to look for what the document describes as “inflammatory” postings and then sharing that information across government agencies.

Since I do not use facebook anymore, I wonder if the Post Office will post those situational awareness bulletin to their website. That would save me time on researching where to meet up at. /s
The Soviets postal system would read folks mail too.
We’re in a gay Soviet Union.
Just hop in the time machine and set it for any date before July 1, 1971, when the USPS was established, replacing the US Post Office Dept, founded in 1791.
In Amerika letter reads you.
Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
They’ll be watching you.
Gorge Orwell was just not creative enough.
Yup.. We are basically being terrorized by companies with names like Google and Yahoo.. The Fascist Left is real mature.

Why don't they just join. As a federal LEO I was on FR everyday during my last 10 years of service.
I found FR was a much better source of intelligence than were our intel people.
They are gathering evidence to make the case you could have conducted your “social” get togethers by letter and you didn’t need to go online. Think of all the stamps not purchased by people going on line. If the social networks were like the old “penpal” days, postal revenue would soar.
Everyday I get an email from the USPS Informed Delivery system that includes pictures of the front of all the mail I am going to get for that day, and a list of all the packages I an going to get that day or that are in transit. What could possibly go wrong? BTW, just because yo don’t ask to see it, USPS is still imaging your mail.
In the 1960’s we called this a “mail cover” and it required a court order to do it.
Not their job.
They aren’t even doing their actual job. They complain they cannot do their actual job, while doing things that aren’t their job.
Maxxie-pad prob housing those. Ready to go at moment’s notice.
LOL! I believe anything Yahoo “news” says is directly opposite of the truth!

You’re not joking. The scumbags have time to be fascists, but not to do their jobs.
There are active federal agents that post on FR. Have for years.
They are not to worried about FReepers.
Well with all the riots, burnings and other forms of lawlessness in Seattle and Portland; guess the Post Office has been on the job for a long, long time.
Probably.
But I suspect it’s fairly difficult to tie posts with a person in real life.
They could do it daily for a given person with a warrant, but it would be a fair amount of effort.
I’d be curious what our host has dealt with.
