A rare mix-up in the COVID-19 vaccine process happened at a Monroe Walgreens, NBC affiliate WCNC Charlotte reports.
Walgreens confirmed it accidentally gave some people an injection of saline instead of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Walgreens said it reached out to all impacted patients and administered the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as patients were able to return to the pharmacy, according to WCNC.
Walgreens said it is investigating what happened. Officials have taken immediate steps to review Walgreens' procedures.

Are drug companies shipping saline and vaccine vials together? Is this a "control" test? Are some people being given placebos?

Maybe the “vaccine” is saline and some vials got mislabeled.
Strange indeed. But when things are rushed, the greater likelihood that mistakes will be made.
Our friend got her vaccine at some county drive-in center. Roll down the window, roll up your sleeve and get jabbed. Who jabbed her? How was the jabber trained? What license does the jabber have? Who knows? Who cares? Just get the vaccine!
Do the vials look the same? Same color caps? Same labels? If you don’t look at the label, you may give the wrong medicine.
And why was another medicine anywhere near the vax? When dispensing something, you clear your work area of extraneous matter.
Don’t the boxes/bottles have identification labels as to what’s in them?
this had to be deliberate....in the hospital you scan the med and you need to put the manufacturer’s name, exp date of the vax and the lot number on the record...
I am still looking for a business or industry where no one ever makes a mistake.

Agree. It's unlikely the vials of the vaccine and saline would look identical unless they were manufactured together and shipped together.
Another possibility is Walgreens was instructed to inject the vaccine and saline as a control test.
Why would they even be in position to put saline into a syringe in the first place?
