"He thinks I’m not Black enough. Seriously," Williams said after being told he wouldn't be a guest on the show.
Panamanian-American journalist Juan Williams said a white TV show host dismissed him from discussing George Floyd's death and subsequent social unrest because Williams wasn't "black enough."
Williams alleges the host is on the PBS-affiliated show "This Is America & The World" and that he declined to have Williams talk about race-related issues because he was born in Panama, not America. Williams, a Democrat, said he received a note from the show host telling him about his decision.
"A white TV host recently dismissed me from appearing on his show to discuss race relations by telling me I didn’t qualify because I was born in Panama," Williams said in his opinion piece in The Hill. "He thinks I’m not Black enough. Seriously."
Williams does not include the language of the note or the name of the host.
Floyd died in May 2020 while in the custody of Minneapolis police, sparking protests about police brutality around the world.
A PBS spokesperson told Mediaite in March, when the incident occurred, that the show may be carried by a "small number of member stations (but) it is not offered by our national feed and is not produced by PBS."
Williams, a paid Fox News contributor, said being rejected to talk about the issue because of where he was born is a "new one."
Williams has written several books on race relations in the United States and has worked for a wide range of media outlets, from The Washington Post to NPR to Fox News.
Yup!!!...Whats that old adage?.....a liberal is just a conservative that hasn't been mugged yet......
Let the muggings begin!!
Juan is so pathetically ignorant it’s sad. He’s really not a very smart pundit.
I guess NPR didn’t think old Panama Juan was down with the struggle.
This Panama thing sent me on a wild goose chase about a WBZ newscaster from long ago, Listo Fisher. He was from Panama. The things I learned about him were just awesome. It was a wonderful diversion.
Another Panamanian Juan. And just as useless.
Juan has to face the fact that under todays racial identity politics, he can’t run with the black crowd, he is just not black enough any more.
Juan will have to look for a job in Puerto Rico , where he can fit the new measure of , “its not what you know, its what your skin color is!”
How do you like it now Juan?
Juan’s political cause hes succeeded to the point of his own cancellation!
Buahahahahahahahahahaha!
More likely that’s just their excuse for not having him on. The real reason is probably that Williams is on Fox.
Juan is hispanic. He has written books on race relations but, similar to Kamala, he has no American slave=derived background and so blacks feel he is a judgemental outsider looking in
Juan got a red pill and is now choking on it...lets hope this is a good lesson to him... my bet is it is a lesson that wont take.
Juan.....ALL you THINK and TALK about are BLACK ISSUES! You are definitely BLACK ENOUGH! Maybe he knows you are BORING, RUDE and a ONE NOTE JUANNY!
You’re thinking of WHOREALDO maybe, who IS Jewish and Puerto Rican.
Juan, PBS has an IQ requirement. The IQ of a guest can be no lower than 50 and no higher than 100. You, unfortunately, missed the 50 threshold.
