A Russian fighter jet on Monday reportedly intercepted and escorted U.S. and Norwegian patrol aircraft over the Barents Sea.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the incident over the body of water near Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia involved a MiG-31 fighter jet, Reuters reported, citing Russia's state-run RIA news agency.
A Pentagon official told The Hill that the Defense Department was "aware of the reports."
"Intercept activity is not unusual. The majority of these are considered safe. However, we don't get into details of the interactions themselves," the official said."

“Fighting has increased in eastern Ukraine with pro-Russian separatists. Biden administration officials have confirmed that Russia now has more troops on the border with Ukraine than at any time since 2014 when it annexed Crimea.”
Putin has decried the end of the Soviet Empire. He wants Ukraine.
No one respects the US now with a senile, corrupt puppet in the White House.
Yeah. So? Both air forces do this regularly. Slow news day? Need clicks?
In other news, Japanese Hiro finds fast friends with red feathered Canadian grouse.
Isn’t that nice of them.
A Russian escort.
Was she wearing a low cut dress?
The pilots fall into parallel courses, fly together a while, then wave and head home.
Putin probably only wants the choice cuts of the Ukraine: The areas where ethnic Russians are predominant, and those areas that connect the Crimea with Russia itself. Anything more than that would probably be provoking Europe and the US to the detriment of Russia a decade or 2 down the line.
“Putin probably only wants the choice cuts of the Ukraine”
Nope, Putin expressed desire for Empire and that doesn’t mean a piece.
Putin has stated all this publicly. He was a devastated KGB agent posted in East Germany when the Soviet Empire fell.
He’s been speaking publicly about his objectives. It’s not for any “choice” cut in Ukraine.
He wants it all.
That’s why THE LAST DAYS are now known as THE BIDEN YEARS.
“Jeez, I crack myself up”
Crimea and Donbass didn't and don't want anything to do with the Ukrainian regime that came to power via revolution. Those regions are pro-Russian and welcome the Russians in.
Putin does, however, want the water turned back on in Crimea.
There was no “revolution.” The Russia-backed president fled in the dead of night from his mansion and private zoo.
You don’t speak for anyone in Eastern Europe except for your own desires which no one there cares about.
You can look up Pukey’s restated desires for bringing back the Empire. It’s old news.
Correct. The sum of Putin’s comments is that he wants to retake the Baltics, he wants to annex Finland, he wants to retake all of the former client states of the USSR, and he wants to retake Eastern Europe.
I doubt he can pull this off but he could seize Ukraine and Finland is up for grabs since it isn’t a part of any military alliance.
The Revolution of Dignity (Ukrainian: Революція гідності, Revoliutsiia hidnosti), also known as the Euromaidan revolution or the 2014 Ukrainian revolution, took place in Ukraine in February 2014, when a series of violent events involving protesters, riot police, and unknown shooters in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv culminated in the ousting of elected president Viktor Yanukovych, and the overthrow of the Ukrainian government.[34]
Russia isn't in Eastern Europe? Those in Belarus agree as well. I certainly speak for most of those in Crimea and Donbass.
The protests were in the center of Kiev, not anywhere near the Russian-protected president’s residence.
He fled in the dead of night... to... wait for it...
Russia.
Nothing was overthrown. Yanukovych fled in the middle of the night. No one was even standing outside protesting and saw him flee.
LOL!
“I certainly speak for most of those in Crimea and Donbass.”
No, you don’t but you and Pukey obviously love to be killer imperialists.
You’ll have to make do living vicariously through his little green men.
Do you want a Soviet Empire or will a Russian Empire do?
The US had good relations with the Russian Empire.
