The first major GOP rift in the post-Trump era centers on Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, the maverick Republican who has the strong backing of GOP leaders in Washington but has been targeted for defeat by former President Donald Trump and his closest confidantes over her vote to convict him for inciting the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.
Nearly a dozen years after overcoming a Tea Party-inspired challenge from the right, Murkowski again is facing a Republican seeking to claim the mantle as the most aggressive version of today's GOP -- or in this case, the Trumpiest.
Republican Kelly Tshibaka, a former Alaska Department of Administration commissioner, has offered herself as a vessel for the supporters of the former President, who won the state twice, as she lambasts Murkowski for her penchant for deal-cutting and breaking with Trump.
The race is the first proxy battle between Trump, whose top political advisers have joined Tshibaka's campaign, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is backing the nearly 20-year incumbent. And it's put Republican senators -- including the National Republican Senatorial Committee -- in an awkward position as they remain divided about the former President's role in the party, and try to unify ahead of the 2022 midterms with control of Congress at stake.

I don’t know what the electorate in Alaska is like. It seems they’d be individualists, and solidly conservative. But they keep re-electing Murkowski?!

The Murkowski machine was a finely developed, grass-roots type organization that was very adroit at disguising and covering up the Murkowski family machinations, with relatively good constituent service. But conservative they are not.
Incumbents have almost unparalleled power to control the electorate in their districts, which may be a good thing or bad, depending on the size of their egos. And their ability to read a crowd.
It’s the usual suspects. People who don’t look past the branding, inertia, Our Congresscritter Is Different But Yours Is The Problem, willful blindness, and of course the classic “20%+ of my primary support is Democrats”.
That’s why there needs to be a coordinated “Vote ‘Em All Out” campaign against all incumbents.
Last time she lost the primary, she ran as a write-up candidate and won in the general. Every democrat came out to vote for her. Tells you a lot.
And those Democrats are who she is beholden to. She is a Rat in all but name.
That is made very difficult by Trump endorsing them.
Micro Rubio needs to be replaced before he can vote for amnesty again.
I would not be surprised if she tries a Jim Jeffords move and officially becomes a Demoncrat.
Their version of 'unity' is Trump and his supporters are silenced and harvested for donations and votes but have no voice and are called every dirty name in the book.
I am never returning to a Bush driven party. They can go to hell.
GOP leaders, please support MurCowSki, further expose your RINO asses to make it abundantly clear to slow people who don't already know who you are.

Just an observation, but any GOP “Maverick” is a very bad thing.
It means party traitor.
