The Governor of Michigan has blamed travelers for a growing number of coronavirus cases. On Sunday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) placed the blame on “snow birds” from Florida for the increasing number of coronavirus variant cases in the Great Lakes State.
In an attempt to stop the spread, Whitmer urged schools to go remote and businesses to have employees work from home for a week.
“This variant, the B117 variant, is what is growing so quickly in Michigan,” Whitmer claimed. “We have the second most — I think — after Florida. Michigan and Florida are not next to each other, but this is the time of the year that snow birds come home from Florida where people are going on spring break and all of these things can contribute to spread.”
Her statement came after she asked for grace when a top staffer took heat for a recent vacation in Florida. Additionally, the state’s health director, Elizabeth Hertel, traveled to Alabama recently despite Whitmer’s calls to avoid out-of-state travel.

SUPEREVIL. So.bad she didn’t pass sniffer’s smell test.
She is just trying to create a new hate group for the Democrats. Blame the elderly snowbirds must be the next narrative.
Needs a rope necklase
Here in Michigan, those WE know as “snow birds” are mostly elderly, retired folks that own property in Florida.
wHitler is just pissed that they didn’t die in Florida.
One more reason why FLA handled the recovery phase better than our governor.
Yeah, right. Many of the “travelers” are recent illegal immigrants that just arrived by bus from the Mexican border, shuffled there by the Harris-Stolen regime. And COVID-19 Wuhan virus is by no means the only infectious disease now being imported to the US in record numbers.
Gretchen Dearest has many things to answer for, and her manipulation of reality is just one of them.
Yep. Whitless is flailing. Blame FLA is so convenient to the lock down narrative. Does she have any proof snow birds are spreading Covid via contact tracing? Of course not. The idea that infected people with symptoms are traveling is preposterous.
Gretch is nuts.
This time of year thousands from Michigan are here in Florida and fully all of 7 Floridians are in Michigan
According to the Michigan Covid-19 Vaccine Dashboard, 16.6% of Detroit residents have been vaccinated, compared to 29.6% vaccinated over the entire state.
Blacks are particularly vulnerable to infection by RNA viruses, and aren't getting vaccinated.
True, but this isn't exclusive to Michigan. Lots of older/retired folks across the northern states winter in Florida. So why are Covid rates jumping in Michigan, but not to the same degree in these other states then?
If you read the post, that’s what she is saying.
I disagree with her also.
This surge is kids and young adults.
Guess it couldn’t be all those mostly peaceful protests that have been occurring over the last year....naaaa.
I said this several weeks ago to Mrs. fonebone. Up here in the thumb, the trunkslammer season has begun, and with it a rise in covid. We are a tight knit bunch up here, and outsiders are easily identified. ( a trunkslammer is someone who shows up friday afternoon at their summer place. On Sunday they throw their stuff in the trunk, slam the trunk and go home )...
That high?
Why would tons of Floridians go to Michigan for any reason? To winter? To summer? To visit that burned out, thug-infested shit hole of Detroit?
Answer: They don't.
Whitmer's a typical Marxist democRAT. Trying to blame others on problems of her own doing.
Satan the Accuser . . . always blaming somebody else . . . it’s just what she does. . . .
I live in north Alabama and I take pretty heavy vitamin D supplements. I had COVID back late October/ early November and it wasn’t much more than a cold to me . . . I have 3 or 4 friends that weren’t so lucky.
First, 'snowbirds' are people escaping snow - 'sunbirds' are people escaping the summer sun... That said, the weather in Florida today is a wonderful 73 degrees...
Gretchen is wrong, stupid and nuts...
