My understanding is that this nitric oxide nasal spray is for the nasal passages, kind of like how hydrogen peroxide is for wounds - a generally effective broad spectrum disinfectant.
Inhaled pathogens otherwise have safe haven to breed, once they are inhaled onto the surface of those nasal passages. Being able to effectively disinfect those internal nooks and crannies, apparently dramatically reduces a pathogen’s chances of developing to full blown disease, or of spreading any further from that host.
I think the Mass General studies are looking at inhaled Nitric oxide gas, rather than the liquid nasal spray.
The SaNotize nasal spray works as a topical disinfectant (albeit on surfaces hard to reach inside the head), whereas the inhaled gas has more internal mechanisms of action, within the circulatory system or cells.

Yeah we were kinda talking past each other. My fault.
Makes me think:
I’ve been very critical of rushing vaccines instead of treatments... but the vaccines are protecting hundreds of millions while treatments like this would only save tens or hundreds of thousands at best. Closer call than I thought.
We need to be able to rush both vaccines and treatments, when/if the big one comes, so COVID has been effective in strengthening our bio-denfensive capabilities on many levels.
I really am pretty stoked about the nitric oxide products, that you highlighted. As soon as I can get some, I will add it to my preparedness stocks, along with disinfectants like bleach, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, and hand sanitizer.
Lowes and Wally World have been blowing out liquid (sprayable) alcohol sanitizer products and semi-gel hand sanitizer as well. Our Lowes had 1 gallon pump jugs of US made hand sanitizer for $2, and smaller bottles for about the same price per oz. Sprayable alcohol was in the same price range. On Clearance @ Wal-Mart sanitizing wipes (for surfaces, not skin) were super cheap too: I picked some up for $.50 / bag of 80. (I didn’t go crazy on these -they’re not much use if they dry out B4 used!)
I figured I was now way overstocked on the liquids & gels — then I saw $3 gallon bottles of alcohol at Wal-Mart. Had decided to pass, then took a look at the ingredients, and these listed only alcohol and purified water as ingredients. I bought two! Not for sanitizing (will dry hands excessively), but because this will make a good cleaning agent when I don’t want to leave any glycerin or other skin softener behind on the “cleaned” surface. (It’d also be great for cleaning tape recorder/player heads if I ever[!] get around to transferring some stuff that’s hard to find even on YouTube to digital media...)
Now if only Wally World would restock Palmolive “essential” detergent for ~$4.50 / 90 oz. bottle again. (It’s easy on my hands for any cleaning or dishwashing purpose.)
What’s the current thinking on typical vaccine effectiveness ~ 2-1/2 weeks after 2nd Moderna shot for a mid-60’s y/o person? I’m kinda wondering as more and more people in my area are getting more and more lax about mitigation.
