Three Ukrainian artillery boats on patrol near Kerch Strait overnight Wednesday when they were confronted Five Russian coast guard vessels performed 'provocative manoeuvres' near the Gyurza-M-class artillery boats Ukrainian sailors threatened to open fire before the Russian craft sailed away, according to Ukraine new site Came as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany warned it will build a nuclear arsenal if NATO refuses to let it join

Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron have told Vladimir Putin to pull his forces back after the Ukrainian navy threatened to shoot Russian FSB boats harassing ships near the Kerch Strait.

The European leaders' demands came as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for a summit with his Russian counterpart and a new ceasefire.

French President Macron hosted Zelensky for talks in Paris - later joined by German Chancellor Merkel by video conference - in a show of support for his pro-Western government in the face of Moscow's assertive stance.

The tensions have escalated seven years after the 2014 annexation of Ukraine's Crimea by Moscow and declaration of breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine by pro-Russian separatists prompted the worst decline in ties between Russia and the West since the Cold War.

Putin and Zelensky last met face-to-face in Paris in December 2019 for meeting hosted by Macron, and also attended by Merkel, which was credited with helping to reduce tensions in subsequent months.

Good, let the Fourth Reich deal with it.

The USA can sit back and watch.

Merkle has clout with Putin...no question about that...Macron just rides her coattail so he can be a part of it.

I think the Wehrmacht should move East immediately. This thing will be over by September — they won’t even need winter uniforms ...

If Trump were still in office, this would be the biggest story of the week with it being portrayed as prima facie evidence of Trump being Putin’s ‘stooge.’

Putin’s about to roll up Ukraine and Biden’s response is to invite him to dinner and there’s nothing but crickets from the media.

I’m happy to support our allies in Europe. Send them tech and intelligence, but you are right this is Europe’s problem.

They are more than capable of dealing with Russia’s out dated military.

Too late. Whatever Putin has in mind is already well in motion. Biden turned back the US Naval ships that were heading through Turkey into the Black Sea. Putin promptly set up a blockade. He has probably already plucked Turkey out of NATO selling them advanced fighter jets and anti-aircraft missile batteries. He’s still got a grip on Syria. And he seems poised to take another big slice out of Ukraine and nobody lifted a finger to stop him before. Biden and NATO aren’t equipped or willing to do anything meaningful to stop him now. With the naval blockade just on the other side of Istanbul, he’s either in a good position to march into Ukraine or extract incredible concessions.

And Europe is too darn dependent on Russian oil and gas.

The French are the most powerful military force in Western Europe, and it is not close. If push came to shove, Merkle’s only purpose would be to let the French Foreign Legion traverse Germany.

Ukraine’s Pres. Zelenskiy appealed to Macron and Merkel in their meeting for greater support just as he has other European leaders......the idea is to drive a wedge between Putin and Europe via Obama/Biden.

It’s not really Europe’s problem and Putin knows it. It’s Ukraine. They don’t consider it Europe and it’s not a part of NATO. They will shrug when he moves into Ukraine just like the last 2 times. After he moves his troops to the river they will meet with Putin who will say “we’re just uniting Ethnic Russians” and they will pull a Neville Chamberlain “there will be peace in our time”.

That will depend on how far Nato pushes.....Ukraine is Putins red-line and they know it. I doubt they’ll risk it. Besides had Putin wanted to invade Ukraine entirely he would have done so long ago.

You know the American President is weak when Merkel and the French guy take the lead on world issues.
