Ex-Brooklyn Center officer charged with second-degree manslaughter in shooting death of Daunte Wright

Violent protests continued in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota for a third night as demonstrators clashed with police following the apparent accidental death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright.

On Tuesday, more than 1,000 protesters gathered outside the city’s police station, which is now guarded with concrete barriers and a large metal fence. Police declared the protest an “unlawful assembly” and ordered the crowds to disperse.

During a press briefing later that day, Minnesota State Patrol Col. Matt Langer said more than 60 protestors were arrested for inciting riots and “other criminal behavior.” He stressed law enforcement will not tolerate these types of violent and dangerous demonstrations.

Should never have claimed "accidebtal" drawing of weapon in the face of warrants out and fleeing from justice. The perpetrator's meeknes ad submission would have averted any necessity for implementation of force instrument. Another case of insubordination, just like that of Floyd.

The crrect response in such situations is always "Sir (or Ma'am)! Yes, Sir!"; white or black, young or old, male or female, rich or poor, citizen or alien. No exceptions!

Unfortunately, it’s the millions of innocents who suffer and die at the hands of the utopian statists, who are really only in it for the money & power.

Does anyone have a link to contribute to her defense? I will gladly contribute.

A general Google type search comes up empty, but a search for Kim Potter at Go Fund Me turns up this after clicking "See all 93":

Go watch the entire bodycam video. She pulled the wrong weapon while shouting that she was getting the other, muzzle-swept the officer beside her several times with her finger on the trigger, then shot the dirtbag (yup, he was scum but did he actually 100% deserve to die?) without checking her backstop, which meant that she could have shot the officer on the other side of the car, who you can see is in her line of fire.

Look at my posts to other related threads. This officer did not belong on the street or with either weapon. She is a danger to herself and others.

Yup. That is called the “Ferguson Effect”.

Every lefty academic on the planet has denied it exists, which means it does exist and is a big deal.

In the bad parts of DC the cops have it down to a science. Even if they hear gunshots out the window of their precinct they continue drinking coffee and eating donuts until the shooting stops.

In many cases it takes them an hour to show up for shootings that are walking distance.

Their logic is—”Why should I risk my life if the Mayor, the City Council and the Police Chief don’t have my back. F&^% ‘em.”

She is a 20 year cop. On previous posts I discussed with other freepers some of the consequences of the "honor code among cops".

I hope she rides this out and doesn't do anything rash.

I don’t know what their policy is, and she may have violated it in a manner that makes her actions inexcusable. Do you know why she shouted, “taser, taser, taser?” Because the report of the taser could cause officers to misrepresent it as gun fire, and respond as such. The fact is “she” (which is an entirely valid disscussion) drew a weapon, which she ultimately thought was a taser (listen to her comments after the shooting) and deployed it. Do you think she would have made that error if the criminal hadn’t put her in that position”

Back when I was a Taser instructor, we encouraged officers to deploy the taser with their support hands to prevent this sort of mistake. Oh, and by the way, we didn’t abandon the citizens of Los Angeles, but we were unprepared for the level of insurgency we experienced.

“This was the female officer that yelled she was pulling a Taser, pulled a Glock pistol instead and shot the guy, fatally. Broad daylight.
Oh, and she waved around her gun, endangered the officer next to her and almost shot the officer on the other side of the car.”
Really? Can you please provide the video clearly demonstrating your claim? Many of us would be very interested in seeing this video evidence backing up your statement. Thanks.

Thing is, she was a department instructor, which means she should be held to a higher standard. Also, prior to resigning, the chief noted that she *completely* blew department policy. Taser is supposed to be on weak side hip, she’s supposed to confirm proper weapon selection. And of course she blew basic weapons safety.

I do know why she made the Taser call - but she then used something that was not a Taser.

LAPD’s own internal communications, released after the fact, demonstrated that officers on the ground near Florence and Normandy were there in enough force and wanted to go in to quell the rioting, but the Acting Chief (Chief Gates being out of town) pulled them back. The political leadership of LA then continued to demand the police pull back for some time after that.

I don’t blame the individual officers for what happened, but the fact remains that the police leadership abandoned the city and pulled the officers back. I’ve run into a number of LAPD officers who were serving in that time and talked it out with them, and have seen nothing to contra-indicate this.

And then afterwards, LAPD went door to door looking for the weapons the air units had seen from on high and the media had depicted. Because, hey, let’s make sure that the civilians are even less capable of defending themselves when the police abandon the city to the rioters.

Sorry, it's been taken down, I should have archived it.

When it was up there was one single donation of $10 recorded 11 minutes before I found it.

Winston Smith has been busy.

If you can find and contact that Norah Turner she could direct you. She is close to Brooklyn Center area.

You can go to Youtube and find the original if you don’t believe this one, but I’ll go with this version from a generally pro-police former officer who is now a YouTuber:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm5SMurcZtM

1:02 - Driver out of vehicle, officer visible on other side of car.
1:10 - Officer on other side of car appears to be opening door and/or looking inside the window.
1:22 - “I’ll Tase ya!”
1:23 - Glock comes into frame, finger clearly visible inside trigger guard.
1:24 - Glock is in frame. Officer’s finger is clearly on the trigger.
1:25 - “I’ll Tase you!” Also at 1:25, she has already muzzle swept the closer officer’s arm once.
1:26 - She muzzle sweeps the closer officer’s leg.
1:28 - She shoots the driver without checking where the offside officer is at all. She’s also *very* close to the closer officer’s head.
1:31-1:32 - Car drives off and you can see that the other officer was directly across from her when she fired.

If you would like stills of the video at any point, please let me know.

This was primarily a training failure, then a leadership failure, but the officer herself bears much responsibility herself. You can see the other two officers are carrying crossdraw Tasers as is her department’s policy. Her hand never goes for crossdraw, it only goes for her Glock.

I was commenting on the speculation from someone about how police should handle things in the future to avoid the Daunte situations. Not on the real case with the taser replaced by the gun.

Left this out: 1:19 - the offside officer is IN THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SEAT.

There were a *lot* of things these officers screwed up badly in the Daunte Wright arrest. The arresting officer screwed up cuffing Wright when he wasn’t resisting. The dispatcher blatantly announced over the air during the arrest that Wright had warrants, in an environment where Wright could hear it, which gave him incentive to run. The list goes on from there. It wasn’t just one error, unfortunately.

Here’s three stills, though you didn’t ask for them

Officer in other side of car:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51116477593_616a91116f_b.jpg

Glock coming out of holster, finger already in guard, probably (but cannot say from video alone) has already flagged the other officer on this side.

Glock still coming up, finger clearly on trigger even though she’s not ready to shoot. *You can still see the other officer behind Wright in the line of fire!!!*

Thanks. It’s not often these days that a Freeper backs up a claim with this level of detail. Back in the day, it was not just commonplace. It was something you could count on like the sun rising in the east. Thanks again. This is a very sad and unfortunate thing. The female cop obviously never meant to kill the guy. But, her incompetence leads to a needless death. The guy killed from all accounts was a criminal loser but, did not deserve death simply because of this fact.
In the current hyper-politicized society we live in this incident, unfortunately, serves to help the WE HATE COPS wing of the Democrat Party. Her accidental incompetence will result in her spending many years in prison if she even manages to survive her incarceration. A sad thing all around.
