Very interesting. Guns drawn immediately on the subject, pepper spray to the face...And in the end, if he “chilled”, they’d just forget the whole thing?

That says all you need to know.

Well, he wasn’t being arrested for murder and not facing the death penalty and the cop who was yelling at him had a taser in his hand so...

I have been pulled over lots of times.

but one time I was stopped at a traffic light, the cops were pulling up next to me, then suddenly backed up got behind me with their lights on, got out with their guns drawn, I am telling you it kind of freaked me out.

turns out I had expired license plate tabs.

which is like $114 fine which can be waived if you buy tabs within 14 days...

I saw the full video on twitter yesterday. I was disgusted by the officers thug life behavior. “Keep your hands out the window, get out of the car”

Was the guy supposed to nose dive out the window?

Lt Nazario stating he was afraid to get out of the car. The officer retorts, “You should be.”

And it was one minute, 40 seconds to get to the well lit gas station, at slow speed with hazard lights flashing. Hardly eluding police.

[There are good and there are bad cops.]

Where are those 'good cops' turning in the 'bad cops' for doing anything that is not in compliance with local/state/federal law or standard operating procedures?
Oh wait, they don't report them.

OK - so apparently you think all cops are bad. Thank you, Mr. wastedyears, for sharing your deep and thought-provoking insights...

This is an outrage. Imagine if a judge treated citizens in the courtroom like this. That judge would be history in about two seconds.

lol no, they're black-robed tyrants. They don't care what people think about them.

“This driver was uncooperative and he physically resisted arrest. He deliberately caused a confrontation and then escalated it. It looks to me like he intended to provoke a reaction that he could then sue over and hopefully cash in, which is what he is now doing.”

I believe this to be the case. I bet this guy is a pain to be around at work, whatever his job is with the Army.

Where are the ‘good cops’ being turned in/reported by ‘good cops’? Oh yeah, that doesn’t happen because the ‘good cops’ would get shunned and bullied by all the rest for daring to try to do something about the ‘bad cops’.

Yet regular people get in trouble for not reporting a crime in certain places.

“Ride the lightning” has meant to be executed by electric chair for over 100 years.

You don’t see it a problem that it’s being used today to refer to getting a few extra volts throughout the body? Would be a real bad thing for anybody with a heart condition/pace maker/epilepsy.

I’m a native of Houston...you are absolutely right. I don’t trust Houston cops at all.

I heard it. Conflicting commands etc. It was pretty obvious. They treated the subject like a wanted violent criminal right from the starting gate. This is something I’d expect in a justified felony stop or pursuit etc. But this was just over the top. Watching this video and watching them exit their vehicles with guns drawn and ready to shoot this guy, I can’t say I blame him for fearing to exit the vehicle.

Ridiculous comment. Completely untrue.

Why are we debating the use of the term? The point is, the guy was warned he would be tased....whether they said, “you're about to ride the lightening” or “you're about to get hit with a taser” isn't the issue. They warned him and he continued to defy them and demand an explanation.

I saw the video. The two cops involved should get the electric chair or lethal injection. That is the only choice I would give them.

We’re debating it because it is a clearly defined euphemism used for a very specific action. It is old and refers to execution by electric chair.

Why try to apply that same euphemism to something that is supposed to be less-than-lethal, but which still uses electricity to impair someone?

OK - like I said, apparently you think all cops are bad. Congratulations.

Years ago, I had a friend - let's call him Tyrone. He was a young guy, and he loved 'Black Culture' and wrote rap music, even though he was as white as Joe Biden's backside. Not a bad guy, but definitely an emotion-based individual. There was a lot of drama in his life, at that time, including fairly regular visits to court (nothing serious, mostly traffic/vehicle related stuff).

We were talking one day, and he went on a rant about the latest media-fueled 'outrage' (probably the Ferguson fiasco). Tyrone told me how rotten all cops were, how they were all out-of-control, and just looking for a chance to gun down some poor sap, for no reason at all (standard 'defund the police' spiel). And then he told me (paraphrasing), "I know my rights, and the next time I get pulled over, I'm not going to be pushed around by any lousy cop!"

That's when I started laughing! When I finally caught my breath, I asked Tyrone (pardon the language), "What are you, f*cking crazy? You just told me every cop out there is a homicidal thug, just waiting for a chance to pull the trigger - and you're planning to argue, and resist arrest? HE HAS A GUN! DO WHAT HE F*CKING TELLS YOU! If one of your rapper friends pulls a gun on you, and wants your wallet, you going to argue with him, too? Tell him about your rights? What are you, a f*cking moron?"

Which highlights an important point; if you think cops rank right up there with Super Man, you should (and probably will) obey all orders and avoid confrontation. And if you think all cops are thugs in uniforms, just waiting for a chance to murder someone, then - guess what? - you should ALSO obey all orders and avoid confrontation. Because the cop has a gun.

My friend Tyrone remained unconvinced. He must have figured that, if he told the cops about his rights, and insisted that they do things his way, they would suddenly stop, and say "Gosh, you're right, Mr. Citizen! I apologize for being an out-of-control, homicidal thug, and now recognize, thanks to your explanation, that I need to reform my ways!"

Frankly, Tyrone was dumb as a rock (plus he was on meds for schizophrenia, and doing 'recreationals' on the side). Haven't heard from him in years, and don't know if he's even still alive...

I watched the video. This “officer” behaved like anything but and it looks as if he was looking for trouble and he got it by his non compliance.

It is against the law to refuse a legal order from a police officer and this was an appropriate stop and request by the Police.

Sorry, not buying your assessment. Corruption in law enforcement is a fact ( think FBI) ...what ever happened to the motto “ to serve and protect”? I have known in my lifetime many corrupt LEO’s, and sorry I have a problem when you say “ legal order”, like asset forfeiture, speed traps for revenue, etc....I don’t know the answer to regaining trust, but a return to “ serve and protect “ is a good start.

Why did he not do as he was requested? He just kept saying “What’s going on”?
