There’s long been a fierce debate about the effect of Black Lives Matter protests on the lethal use of force by police. A new study, one of the first to make a rigorous academic attempt to answer that question, found that the protests have had a notable impact on police killings. For every 4,000 people who participated in a Black Lives Matter protest between 2014 and 2019, police killed one less person.
Travis Campbell, a PhD student in economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, released his preliminary findings on the Social Science Research network as a preprint, meaning the study has yet to receive a formal peer review.
While Campbell’s research does not encompass the events of summer 2020, George Floyd’s killing and the subsequent wave of protests became potentially the largest movement in American history, the sudden growth of which relied on a wave of anger and grief at the police homicides Americans are continually greeted with on the news. Opinion columnists, activists, lawmakers, and even the president of the United States (current and former) have weighed in on these protests and what the appropriate policy changes should be. But first, it’s important to grapple with how the protests have already changed policing.

There. Fixed it.
They shoot horses don’t they?
Meanwhile BLM’s founding executive officer just purchased a 1.6 million dollar mansion in California.
This is not only about having two separate jurisdictions of law based on race, it is also about wealth redistribution.
Watch the higher up BLM commies and socialists cash in their chips. The low level peons are nothing but cannon fodder , pursuant to the Commie social model. Soon the purges will begin.
They are trying to say fewer people were killed by the cops, not more. IOW they are backing BLM.
But they are also pressing an unprovable assertion, since they don’t actually know what would have happened last year without BLM.
Hmmm. Well it certainly increased the awareness of all the evil I’ve done in 73+ years and made me “feel” SOOOOOOOOO ashamed. Nah, just kidding. Still treating folks they way they deserve. Nice folks get treated nicely, regardless. A-holes get treated accordingly or not at all, regardless.
So killings by cops are down.
Any data on how the overall murder rate has increased due to blm’s actions?
Attention Parents... OK, Attention Baby Mama: If you're not going to teach your kids to respect authority (or anything else) at least teach them this: (I have thoughtfully put it into a rhyme for those predisposed to not listen to, or learn from, anything that doesn't rhyme):
Comply - Don't Die
Correlation doesn’t prove causation. Measure geographic crime rates with black police shootings and I’ll bet it’s close to 99% correlation. Is any woke person going to write an article on that correlation?
What statistical nonsense. Killings by police are probably not down. What the researcher found was that there are more protesters, not less deaths. We already know that homicides are raging in most low income areas in big cities. Why didn’t the researcher focus on that? This is yet another way to focus on fake news meant to make white people feel guilty.
It seems the higher-ups in BLM have studied Orwell’s Animal Farm and taken to heart the Pigs rising up on two feet after concluding that some animals are more equal than other animals.
I’m sure the lasting effect will be “de-policing”; they may or may not send social workers, but in either case the cops aren’t coming.
This hasn’t been an issue in NJ cities because the cops “stood down” a long time ago.
Another lasting effect will be the end of any illusions about the economic viability of areas with large concentrations of blacks; businesses and customers aren’t safe there.
Agreed. The Pig factor is strong within BLM, but they themselves call our men and women and blue by that name to dehumanize them. Turn about s fair play.
The 1.4 million dollar home is located in Topanga Canyon, LA, now home to sprawling homes where 88 percent of the residents are white
A pig in a poke indeed is Patrisse Khan-Cullors:

The BLM Commies will now begin their purges.Who will win out, the rich BLM commies of the poor BLM commies? May they spare no haste to destroy each other.
The correct name for the BLM process is The Africanization of America
Think Rhodesia and then Zimbabwe
Think Baltimore and then Baltimore
They are down slightly. But near of the consequences of proper policing in the black community leads to drive and wave policing, so bad guys are left to do their evil. That means more blacks killing more blacks, but that is black on black, so their lives don't matter.
‘near’ = ‘fear’

Yup. It’s the standard outcome of all communist societies. At their core, they’re a throwback to a feudal system of a few elites ruling over serfs who have no rights.
I don’t need research to know that BLM protest will make police hesitate and that as a result, homicides go up. Common sense
Killings by police probably are down, as more forces accept that they are to take a hands-off approach to blacks. Here in the northeast, we have good cops who contain the problem; the cities themselves have useless cops who just participate in wealth redistribution/fake gubmint jobs.
And, of course, a year of lockdown had no effect...
These “studies” aren’t worth the toilet paper they’re written on.
Actually, I think that the BLM and “defund” movements DID have an effect on police. It cowed the police and brought them back in line with their union masters. The police are more of a threat to American patriots than they are to BLM.
But murders in pretty much all the major cities are up sharply, far offsetting the fewer people killed by cops.
But this is far too nuanced for your average Leftist.
