United Airlines is taking a bizarre business risk and announcing to the world that it will no longer hire the best pilots available but will instead make sure that 50% of their trainees for flying you around the world will be women and minorities—talent and skill be damned. I’m not making this up. I wish I were.

Their website details this diversity commitment with more wokespeak than I can usually tolerate in one paragraph:

We are working toward raising that number even higher by partnering with diversity-led organizations and continuing to remove gender and racial barriers. And we’re going one step further with plans for 50% of United Aviate Academy students being women and people of color to ensure our students reflect the diversity of the customers and communities we serve

I think I will wait when I board, to allow first 50% of the passengers are people of color and/or women. I think America needs to be obsessed, controlled, and everyone judged by skin pignment tone, and no one allowed to get to the front of the class because they are better, faster, smarter or sharper. In fact I think NFL players need to start doing quotas..50% should be women, and there is a LOT of white skin pigment playing in the game. It isn’t about rebounds, goals or catching passes, it’s about SKIN. I am not WOKE.
I’m going to play devil’s advocate here. Isn’t it much easier to fly a commercial jet nowadays than it was 50-60 years ago? Newer models, most of the flying is automated amyway?
This crap will continue increasing in frequency until it has gone so far that things fall apart around us. At that point, it will be too late to put things right.
No flying them if flying becomes a necessity.

40 years ago my instructor was a very attractive female. She was my instructor because she was an excellent instructor. Southwest Airlines thought so also. She became a senior pilot instructor. Southwest hired her because she was good, not because she was female. That is the way it is supposed to work.
Actually today’s planes run themselves by computer. What happens when the computer fails and these video pilots have to really take over and land? This has happened.
Reminds me of the move Space Cowboys when Tommy Lee Jones’s character, Hawk, tell them to have a computer failure in the simulator, one guy says that has never happened, and he presides to land the space shuttle anyway. That is what you will be facing in the future, pilots trained by a video game, that really don’t know how to land a plane.
Or watch the movie Flight where Denzel Washington plays a pilot who is a alcoholic and drug abuser, yet when the plane messes up he does some flying that was unreal and saved the passengers and crew.

I’m totally unqualified to answer, but I have watched “Air Disasters”, so I’ll take a shot. :)

Yep, but when that automation fails you want the best pilot. Note the 737 Max failures. Both fatal crashes were foreign airlines of third world nations. We had the same failures on some 737 Maxs in the USA and also Europe. Superior pilots did not crash it.
