Members of the Los Angeles Jewish community are upset at the closure of Ralph’s supermarket, in the Pico-Robertson neighborhood, after the L.A. City Council mandated an additional $5 per hour of “hero pay” for employees for four months.

“We don’t believe there should be consequences for our actions”
I wonder how many of the politicians have ever run a business where they had to make payroll without any kind of government subsidies...
Open up your own store then. See how much in favor you’ll be of the required raise. Such fools......
“I see you have some money there. Give it to that guy.”
Has the Community been votin' Democrat?
The Majority of Jews in Los Angeles have always voted in lockstep with the founders of the NAZI party, the Demonrats.
SUCK IT UP!
Heroes? Well, yes, and no. At least they were classified as "essential" workers and kept their jobs, unlike thousands of others. In that they benefited from the "pandemic" regulations that others suffered under. I say the local workers getting the extra $5 per hour pay it into a fund for all the workers who lost their jobs. Why not call all those forced to stay home "the heroes"? /sarc

The Democrats founded the NAZI party? Who knew?
Easy to give away other people’s money, isn’t, especially to virtue signal and show your concern for “the little guy.”
Most supermarkets run on a very slim profit margin of between 1-3% - is it any wonder in California that almost all of them have more and more self-check out lines? Even Whole Foods that claims they’re so pro-employee has added them, IKEA too recently.
And yes, that is a very lefty area that helped elect these bastards that lord over them.
In that case, Schadenfreude.
Just curious, did y'all vote for democrats?
Stupidity is supposed to hurt!
Embrace the pain and learn from it!
Is the Jewish community angry with Ralph’s for closing or the government for imposing the hero pay to close the store?
I do not believe that Government has the right to single out one particular business segment (groceries) and then “dictate” to a private business owner in that segment WHAT AMOUNT of money he/she has to pay his/her employees.
Kroger is 100% RIGHT on this one.
Government mandated “hero pay” needs to come directly from the taxpayers, not the business owner. Put a line item right in the municipal budget.
I’m not in CA but I am a Jew and I say a POX (OH WAIT!!!) upon those stupid arse socialist dem voting Jews!
Keep in mind these stores see 15,000 or more customers a week. Each of their work encounters with the public puts them at risk for covid. As do their coworkers. There were huge disruptions at warehouses due to covid hot zones, there have been disruptions in stores as well where whole depts were quarantined. Mask, sanitation enforcement has been lax and not supported by many of these companies. I know of one store manager whose entire household had covid and he still came to work feeling sick putting everybody at risk. He finally had to be out, was hospitalized but came back almost immediately after release putting his workers at risk. The company did nothing.

No more so than their customers.
I think statistics show that health care workers (of all sorts) food service workers and construction workers have had higher rates of infection and illness than the general retail trade.
A NY state study of thousands conducted early this year found 80% of infections occurred in two types of venues. The home was the largest followed by health care and nursing home workers (the home about 60%, health/nursing care 20%).
The Pico-Roberson community is primarily Orthodox and Conservative. Don’t be a shmuck.
