So they were going to the long term care facilities. They got vaccine in the middle of December, they started going to the long term care facilities the third week of December to do LTCs. So that was their mission. That was very important. And we trusted them to do that. As we got into January, we wanted to expand the distribution points. So yes, you had the counties, you had some drive through sites, you had hospitals that were doing a lot, but we wanted to get it into communities more. So we reached out to other retail pharmacies — Publix, Walmart — obviously CVS and Walgreens had to finish that mission. And we said, we’re going to use you as soon as you’re done with that. “Here’s some of the options: we can do more drive-through sites, we can give more to hospitals, we can do the Publix, we can do this.”
Sharyn Alfonsi: The criticism is that it’s pay-to-play, governor.

And Publix is not happy either. There could be a lawsuit against CBS by Publix very soon.

If anything, it’s probably cost Publix something. They have pharmacies, but generally not waiting rooms, and the people getting the vaccine were sitting in the vestibule, with a Publix employee responsible for checking them in, calling them, etc.
BTW, one of the reasons this went to the supermarkets (including the Winn Dixie) is that there were complaints that the cities and counties were doing their vaccination centers in places “inaccessible” to blacks. Why it should be any harder for blacks that for whites to get to the county facilities - sometimes a county services building, sometimes a large shopping mall, etc. - is a mystery, but it was just a Dem narrative to stir things up.
Since just about everybody has a Publix in their neighborhood, there’s parking, and many older people already go there for their prescriptions, it was thought that offering vaccinations there would answer any complaints.
BTW, Publix is a Florida company and is employee-owned.
If anything, it’s probably not that convenient for Publix. Lots of work and effort had to go into getting the program going and it’s added extra work to pharmacy, store, etc. Also inconvenient for shoppers.

DeSantis should sue for defamation, it seems to be stating to work since Project Verits’ victory in forcing discovery at the “Old Grey Hag” the NYT.
