I found it cheaper to buy a gun which doesn’t eat so much ammo so fast.
Bingo. Ordering online is double the price of ammo in local store if you can find it..
Friends are coming over later in the week. One of them suggested we go to a range. So I looked to see the nearest ranges and what their hours were, social distance rules etc.
Big banner on the front of the website says “we only have .40 Cal and .45 Cal in stock” and “we have no 9mm, .38mm, shotgun shells” etc - a big list of what they do not have available for purchase at the range.
And I’m assuming these are all reloads.
Basically it’s bring your own ammo.
Ah, so purposeful price gauging?
“... who to sell ammo true....”
Beth, Beth, Beth....
The article provides only a brief explanation for the causes of ongoing ammo shortage. And the “middle of a pandemic” excuse is really getting old. No in-depth reporting here.
We are now 6 months (or more) into the shortage. Ammo can be found online if you are willing to pay 3x or more than normal, plus shipping.
But...
Determine what you will NEED for the next two years and stop buying after that.
Since all the paranoids WON’T do that, this is gonna last a good three to four years.
Expecting some great deals in four plus at hoarder/speculator estate sales.
Iv’e heard all the various reasons that ammo is scarce and I realize that like the earlier run on toilette paper there are going to be those profiteer jerks that will buy up all they can, then sell at ridiculous prices.
What doesn’t make sense to me is that all calibers seem to be sold out.
Some ammo like 9mm, 45acp even the older .38 special are among the most owned calibers in the USA, if not the world.
But when you star seeing the .32’s, 327 mag,8mm nambu, 38/45, 41 colt,44 special, 44-40, 44 russian....etc...
and lots of others - sold out- you begin to wonder if
there’s a reason that’s different from all the past shortages ?
And if like the companies state, they are working around the clock to turn out new ammo, where is all this “new ammo” going ?
This is all just a test. American companies cannot supply the demand when Americans only think they need ammo.
When we really need it, it won’t be there.
We are being “probed”, for weaknesses.
I’m an Occam’s razor sort of guy and not a conspiracy nut, but this is very obvious as it occurs every time a Democrat
government takes over.
What? There’s an ammo shortage? I hadn’t even noticed.
There’s plenty of less popular calibers. 40 S&W, 5.7 Czech, 32ACP, etc.
Seems to me with demand so high that capitalism 101 would kick in. Make you wonder if there are restrictions on getting into the manufacturing business?
Why isn’t Hornaday, for example, opening up new manufacturing plants? The demand certainly is there.
I would not think that making bullets would require that much start up capital?
When the Federal Government truly limits ammo (starving the sources, bank and online credit card refusals, cancel culture tactics, long order delays) they will allow us to have a little flag unfurl that says “Bang!” in place of a round being fired.
Carjacker with the .45 will have to say “Ow, ya got me” and fall over or it won’t be effective.
This is where that retired Marine brother in law who reloads becomes an important source of joy.
I found a thousand rounds of .223 ammo. It was a grand plus tax. This was a local store. So a buck a round. I’m going to use the casings for reloads since it’s much cheaper that way. I have thousands of primers.
Also if you need .375 h&h magnum ammo expect to pay out the nose. Was looking, it’s available but holy moly the cost is crazy.
Reload if you can people, or find someone who can do it for you.
Academy Sports has been getting shipments in about twice a week. Often a mixed bag of calibers. Limit has been two boxes per person.
Talking to a distributor of mine, and it seems that primers is one of the real holdups on ammo supply.
