Trump’s call for boycotts may finally teach big business to stop openly siding with the Dems

I am deeply offended that big corporations are trying to bully Georgia into repealing a perfectly reasonable voting integrity law. President Biden lied about the law so egregiously that even the Bezos propaganda outlet, The Washington Post, awarded him 4 Pinocchios. But that didn’t stop some of America’s most prominent corporations from trying to bully Georgia into repealing the law, one which protects legitimate votes from being cancelled out by fraudulent votes.

Now, former President Trump is calling for boycotts of the corporations that are acting as political overlords:

"For years the Radical Left Democrats have played dirty by boycotting products when anything from that company is done or stated in any way that offends them. Now they are going big time with the WOKE CANCEL CULTURE and our sacred elections," Trump said in a statement on Saturday released by Save America PAC. (snip)

"It is finally time for Republicans and Conservatives to fight back— we have more people than they do— by far! Boycott Major League Baseball, Coca-Cola, Delta Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, ViacomCBS, Citigroup, Cisco, UPS and Merck. Don’t go back to their products until they relent. We can play a better game than them," he said.

I agree with the sentiment wholeheartedly, but I differ in tactics. This is a long list to boycott, and it includes some firms that might be difficult for some people to avoid. What if you are on a prescription drug made by Merck? Or what if you are traveling to or from a city where Delta Airlines offers the only service?

Increasingly, Saul Alinsky, the left-wing agitator who inspired Hillary Clinton’s graduation thesis at Wellesley, has advice that makes sense for conservatives today. He specialized in advising those with less institutional power how to bend the mighty to their own purposes.

The best way is for conservatives to stop being quiet in the board room. There are thousands more conservative stakeholders and en mass they can essentially shout in the board room.

I’m confused about the difference between boycotts and “cancel culture.” Isn’t boycotting the same as canceling?

Near as I can tell it's a boycott when we do it and cancel culture when the other side does it.

You ask the right question ... yes it is a boycott if you cease to use a normally used produce or service, not a boycott if you don’t. However in many cases the company marketing types may already have you profiled as a user or non-user. If they recognize you as a non-user, your continued non-use is of no concern to them. It is a bit like writing to your democrat congressman and starting your letter with ‘I am a Republican ...’ or ‘I didn’t vote for you ...’. The cipher reading your letter stops right there and drops your letter into the shredder. They - don’t - care ... although you may get a boilerplate response that says “Thank you for contacting this office. We will give your opinions the consideration that WE feel they deserve.”

IOW, F.O.A.D.

I’m confused about the difference between boycotts and “cancel culture.” Isn’t boycotting the same as canceling?

Boycotts are a form of financial activism that tries to either correct the ideological direction of a company or reduce their power. Cancel culture is a form of lazy Cultural Marxism. It uses shaming and pressure to punish someone, not because they caused or are causing material harm to the aggrieved but because they simply weren’t woke enough (or, in some cases, were too woke).

Cancel culture is bad.

Righteous boycotts are good.

Understanding the difference between the two is key for conservatives in order to end the former while advancing the latter.

It should be so simple, make a good product and sell it at a good price; make the customer and share-holders happy. But no. They have to get all woke and touchy feelie about it.

Only a boycott that hurts will cause the share-holders to make them rethink their stupidity and stick to the knitting and just STFU!

Until fools realize that it costs them money and lifestyle to be woke because resources are finite, nothing will change. I hope all snowflakes melt in hell.

The GOP is in disarray with the globalists creeping back into the party leadership. If they continue to consolidate power (such as it is) in the GOP, the next election is going to be ugly.

Watching and waiting to see if the boycott works, but in the absence of reasonable expectation that the party isn’t going to turn into the party of Paul Ryan again, I don’t know. I think people need something to get excited about and a summer without baseball, Coke, and with USPS delivery instead of UPS is kind of grim.

Something needs to be done about the party, the GOP house is not in order.

Boycotting is refusing to buy a company’s product until the company changes its behavior; cancelling is calling for someone’s dismissal because of something he or she said or did.

How have none of these companies faced a class action lawsuit from shareholders? Picking sides politically will effect shareholder value.

GOYA sales actually went up when the Left tried to cancel them.
My wife bought every different product they made. The stores sold out of GOYA products.

They are also afraid of the mobs. Leftists attack businesses and people who even hint at disagreeing with them. The police are being held back from doing what they should do to these thugs. If you protect yourself, you are in trouble. Yes, power is definitely in the hands of the radical left.

Spot on. Lack of organization is the weakness of the Right. Oh we can rally with 200K people but that’s a one and done. Organizing nationally is not in our blood, as individual Liberty seems to argue against it. The closest we have come was the Tea Party, 2009 to 2010. We held nationwide rallies. We showed up at Congressional town halls and hounded the congressmembers. But the NRO types moved in. Started DC based national orgs using the Tea Party name and co-opted us. Trump saw this anger at betrayal and used it. But though his heart, soul, and words were in the Right place, he had too many enemies in power and too few allies there in DC. He also had a bad eye for govt/political talent. He hired some truly awful people. His call for a boycott is tilting at windmills, unfortunately. Look at who we are being asked to boycott. The banks most of us use. The beverages many drink. The airlines we fly. There are only a few My Pillow, Hobby Lobby, Black Rifle Coffee.
Remember Big Business has always been in cahoots with govt. It never mattered whether Dems or GOPs held office. The most notorious and dangerous act to come out of the New Deal was The National Recovery Act. In it the Feds wrote the rules for businesses large and small, and you went along or you could not display the Blue Eagle and were branded unpatriotic and unAmerican. But the feds did not write the rules. Selected big businesses did. My family owned five grocery and fruit and veg markets in NYC. They had weathered the first four years of the Depression. But the the NRA shoved regs down my grandfather’s throat that harm e d the family and the business, made them less competitive. Who wrote those rules? A&P and Safeway. This wasn’t why he came to America. He refused to join. His business volume sank. By 39 he’d lost four of the five stores.
As long as they make money Big Business will either control or obey whoever holds the power in DC.

Getting into leftist politics has worked so well for JC Penny, Sears and the NBA so of course the MLB had to jump in with both feet.

Bush League Republicans don’t have to creep back into power, they never lost it.
They still control the party, McCarthy has replaced Ryan and 145 voted to keep Liz Cheney in leadership.

Mitch and his bitches are still there.

Trump has to stop endorsing Assistant Democrats.

I agree with the author, we should pick one and concentrate our fire; Coke is a great choice.

I was at a restaurant yesterday, asked for a Pepsi (I was a Coke drinker until three days ago). The waitress said all they had was Coke. I told her I don’t drink Coke products anymore, and got a glass of ice tea instead. I was surprised by the reaction of the other customers; nearly all supported what I said, and several others changed their drinks to tea or water.

This was at a restaurant about 30 miles outside of very liberal Tucson.

Why should I support a college baseball team? Colleges and universities are the most “woke” anti-American institutions in the country. Besides, I hate the “clank of the bat”

Instead of a boycott, conservatives should pool our money, buy stock in a company such as Coke, and vote the wokers out.
