Florida has banned state and local government agencies and businesses from requiring so-called vaccine passports, or documentation proving that someone has been vaccinated against Covid-19.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, issued an executive order on Friday prohibiting businesses from requiring patrons or customers to show vaccine documentation, or risk losing grants or contracts funded by the state. It was not immediately clear how the order applied to state and local government agencies.
Requiring proof of vaccination, the order says, would “reduce individual freedom” and “harm patient privacy,” as well as “create two classes of citizens based on vaccination.”
There has been much discussion about vaccine passports, a way to show proof that someone has been vaccinated against the coronavirus, though the passports raise daunting political, ethical and privilege questions. The Biden administration has made clear that it will neither issue nor require the passports, but Republicans have seized on the issue as an example of government overreach.

Minorities won’t know how to get one- Jimmy Crow!
BOOM!
PING!
You would be surprised at how many on FR support the idea of COVID ‘passports’...ironic.
Many blacks won’t get it because of the Tuscaloosa airmen.
Not me. I’d like to be able to go to the grocery store without needing the beginnings of a social credit score.
I have been vaccinated, but do not support this passport stuff.
When in all God’s green earth have we ever required such a thing to basically go about living?
Kids, in schools sure. Vaccination records, but transient things like flu or this covid stuff? No.
I am also alarmed that colleges are moving to demand vaccination of returning students in the fall. They legally cannot do that under the EUA. And no one challenges this stuff? It is just weird that so many are accepting it as the new normal.
Tuskegee
Let freedom ring !
Interesting. I remember in 1985, when I started college, there was a measles outbreak in Maryland, and my university was demanding records of my measles vaccinations before letting me start.
That “passport” is another step to losing our freedoms that we once cherished.
So if airlines or cruise lines require proof of vaccine before allowing people on the plane or ship then what is DeSantis going to do? Refuse to allow them to land or sail?
I was pretty surprised by that too. I also saw people saying that DeSantis has no right to interfere with private businesses....but there’s a big difference between asking for compliance with a dress code (ranging from shirts and shoes to a mask) and demanding personal health data.
Businesses would do it for political reasons, as well, to prove they are good citizens of the state...look at the giant corporations such as Delta and Coke trying to interfere with Georgia election law to please their woke Democrat masters.
But you’ve never needed those records to go to a baseball game, football game, 4th of July Fireworks, grocery store, out to dinner, mall, gym, fly, or simply stay at a hotel, cross state lines...
That’s the issue here.
The Florida legislature needs to step up and provide WuFlu liability protection for all FL biz.
Why is that the state government's job?
Because these are state registered businesses and Fedzilla won’t do it.
NYS protected nursing homes from both criminal and civil liability.
I’m sure FL’s legislature can find a way to keep FL biz that want to return to normal from bring sued into bankruptcy.
Did Florida do away with commercial liability insurance companies or something?
