Derek Chauvin trial: Paramedics say Floyd had no pulse when they arrived

Two paramedics have told a Minneapolis court that George Floyd had no pulse and did not appear to be breathing when they arrived at the scene.

What was the paramedics' testimony?

Mr Bravinder said the initial call-out was deemed non-life threatening although that soon changed.

He told the court he initially thought that a struggle was taking place when he and his partner arrived on the scene, but quickly realised that Mr Floyd, 46, was limp.

Asked about video footage showing him gesturing to Mr Chauvin, Mr Bravinder said he wanted to "have him move" and this was "so we could move the patient".

His partner Derek Smith checked Mr Floyd's neck for a pulse but could not find one. "In lay terms, I thought he was dead," Mr Smith said.

"When I arrived on scene there was no medical services being provided to the patient," he added.

Mr Bravinder cradled Mr Floyd's head to prevent it from hitting the road as they transferred him to a stretcher.

They put him in an ambulance and started chest compressions.

At one point Mr Smith thought he saw electrical activity from Mr Floyd's heart and delivered an electrical shock to try to restart it. "He was a human being and I was trying to give him a second chance at life," he said.

Mr Bravinder said he had to stop the ambulance en route to the hospital to help his colleague after the heart monitor showed Mr Floyd had flatlined - his heart had stopped. All further efforts to resuscitate Mr Floyd failed.

He told the court that an officer should stop using the knee as a restraint once “you get control of the situation” and the suspect is in handcuffs.

“Leave someone on their stomach for too long, their breathing will be compromised, so you’ll want to get them up out of that position,” he said.

Is that specified in the training? What exactly does the manual state?

If you are a witness testifying and you don’t go along with the prosecution’s view of a Murder then you are putting your life at risk

“Mr Bravinder said he had to stop the ambulance en route to the hospital to help his colleague”

That is not what the testimony was, it is a complete lie. Upon arriving at the scene and assessing the situation, they immediately decided to “load and go” Floyd, begin treatment in the ambulance, and move several blocks away for safety and continued treatment until fire arrived with more help. . A cop and two paramedics were in the ambulance. One of the primary reasons for this plan from the beginning was the escalating verbal harassment, chaos and potential violence from the growing crowd.

The guy was a dead man walking before the police arrived. He was his own executioner.... loading up with drugs , attempted theft, and resisting arrest. He did himself in.

“Leave someone on their stomach for too long, their breathing will be compromised, so you’ll want to get them up out of that position,” he said.

No.

I believed that, but while I was trying to manage a comatose friend that I found prone on his stomach in his apartment, that is what I told the 911 EMT that I called on the phone that I was going to try to roll him over to breathe better.

"Don't do that!: the EMT warned. "If he regurgitates or swallows his tongue, he may drown in it. Leave him the way he is until we get there. Just keep his arms from underneath and his head turned to the side with his mouth free."

When they came, they got him onto the gurney on his back, with his head and back elevated to manage his breathing and apply an oxygen mask.

So what you said above can be really wrong for someone who is comatose or even semi-alert but powerless to move.

Inevitably, there’s unavoidable symmetry.

Keeping a patient in the prone position, on their stomach, is now standard of care for Wuhan patients because it MAKES IT EASIER FOR THEN TI BREATHE

So Floyd wasn’t breathing and the first thing they did was to put him on a stretcher and into the ambulance and THEN start chest compressions?

Gee, seems like the first thing to do would be the chest compressions and then, if you get him breathing, put him on the stretcher and into the ambulance.

Minnesotans have a lack of common sense it seems.

Fentanyl has a way of making that happen.

They needed to relocated first because the natives were restless.
