A 29-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder for the fatal road-rage shooting of a Manheim woman while she and her husband were headed to the beach last week for vacation, authorities announced Thursday.
Dejywan R. Floyd was driving down Interstate 95 in Lumberton, North Carolina, around 11:40 a.m. March 25 when Ryan and Julie Eberly’s GMC Yukon came close to Floyd’s Chevrolet Malibu as they merged lanes, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Floyd pulled alongside the Yukon’s passenger side and fired several shots through the window, then got off the highway at an upcoming exit.
Ryan Eberly pulled off the highway and waited for medical assistance, but 47-year-old Julie Eberly, who’d been sitting in the passenger seat, died.
Authorities said the couple’s six children weren’t along on the trip. Ryan Eberly said in a statement he and his wife were planning to celebrate their wedding anniversary with friends who got married at the same time.

Floyd was arrested at about 12:38 a.m. Thursday at the Parkview Apartments in Lumberton.
In addition to the murder charge, Floyd is charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied property. He is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond and has a first-appearance hearing Thursday morning, authorities said.

WGAL is learning more about the criminal history of the North Carolina man accused of fatally shooting a Lancaster County woman in a road rage incident.
Court records from North Carolina show Dejywan Floyd’s first public charges were in July 2009. He was 17 at the time and arrested for stealing a car.
More recently, Floyd served two and a half years in state prison from November 2015 to July 2018. The sentence came after he was convicted of having a gun when he was already a felon and firing it. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Floyd fired the gun into a home.
The court documents also show other charges in 2010 and 2011 for simple assault, breaking and entering, larceny and stealing a gun.
Floyd was arrested Thursday in connection with the March 25 road-rage killing of Julie Eberly, 47, of Manheim. Floyd is charged with first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property.
He won’t be in jail long, they need his vote.
