The U.S. on Tuesday said it would provide almost $600 million in humanitarian assistance to Syria aimed at helping the millions of refugees in neighboring countries as well as the Syrian population.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced the aid at a U.N. conference on Syria’s future. It comes as the war passes its 10th year and remains one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
A U.N.-coordinated effort is seeking some $4.2 billion to help Syrians inside the country and $5.8 billion for countries hosting refugees.
The U.S.’s announcement marked a break from the Trump administration’s repeated efforts to cut aid to Syria, part of its broad effort to slash U.S. foreign-assistance funding. Congress opposed those efforts.
Despite former President Trump’s opposition to foreign aid, U.S. assistance to Syria remained steady through the Trump administration, and even rose slightly in 2020, according to U.S. foreign-assistance data...

Didn’t we just bomb them?
U.S. Pledges Nearly $600 Million in Aid to Syria
_______________________________________________________
I sure am glad that no U.S. citizens could use that money. But when you can just conjure it outta thin air, I guess the Feds are basically saying that the American public has as much aid as they need (unless your a Dem, metropolitan area...then you can get astronomical amounts).
Hey why not, we American taxpayers love giving our money to third-world hell holes.
And not even one thin dime will actually do anything positive. It will all disappear into thin air.
We bomb them then give them money?
Oh yea, it’s the Biden “administration.”
Thinking the same thing, we are not friends with Assad and isn’t this against current sanctions?
Syria’s near-complete isolation has increased since the Trump administration in 2019 enacted legislation known as the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act.
The sanctions, which US officials said aimed to hold “accountable the Assad regime for atrocities it has committed against its own people”, target Syria’s president, his close circle of associates, family, senior security officials and troops, as well as the central bank and any institutions believed to have played a role in the violence during the war.
While al-Assad may have won the military campaign against his opponents with the help of backers Russia and Iran, he faces an even bigger challenge of governing while more than 80 percent of his people live in poverty.

What does Syria have that we would want to spend money on?
It’s capitalism. It generates so much wealth that a welfare recepient has money left over for more than one tattoo. We’ll soon spend money on tattoo bailouts-just like college loans.
Money grows on trees, I guess💩
1200 Americans are condemned that every penny of federal tax they pay over their lifetime will be given to wahabbist moslems trying to overthrow Assad and establish another Sunni hellhole.
1200 American’s, every penny in Fed taxes their entire working life.... given to the enemy. Given to the people who attacked us on 9/11.
You can kiss that money away. It will be used for armaments and to pay off corrupt officials. SloJoe&Ho are deliberately spending America into oblivion to weaken us up for their buddies China. Where is a heart attack or stroke when you need one? And a little something for Ho & Pelousy?
All aid should come from rich Middle East countries and whoever owns the situation in Damascus, which is not the U.S.
No big deal. Just fire up the printing presses and give everyone in the world all the money they want. There is no downside, after all, we are doing the right thing. (Is a sarcasm tag really required?)
I'm waiting to see how Biteme will screw up the Abraham Accords, the greatest peace agreement in modern ME history due to Pres. Trump. When's the last time you heard about the other Arab nations who were considering joining?
There is not such thing as American foreign aid, it is just a kickback scheme to enrich our crooked establishment. The cut that our crooked American politicians get from doling out “foreign aid” money has to be over 50%.
... and into the silk-lined suit pockets of the cretins living in the ACELA Corridor.
$600 million is quite a bit of money.
Good grief...
