FEMA said the COVID-19 funeral assistance program will be implemented starting in April and applications will be accepted at that time. They are currently working to establish a phone number where applications can be filed. To qualify, applicants must meet certain conditions.
In the meantime before applications are accepted, people with COVID-19 funeral expenses are encouraged to gather and keep documentation, FEMA said. Additional guidance will be released to potential applicants and community partners once finalized.
Assistance is limited to a maximum of $9,000 per funeral and a maximum of $35,500 per application per state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
Additional information is available on the FEMA website.

SS $250.
Cremate, around $1,000. My brother died poor just his SS money, I bought a nice Brass Urn online for $150. overnight shipping. We held his memorial at my sister’s, with just a cold cut platter, cake, flowers , photos, tea, soda, chips, each of us saying some words with a Gospel CD playing. That was both a sad time, but it brought peace to our hearts. This is what was done in the olden days. My middle sister is the keeper of our family treasures.
Think back to the simple private funeral of Country Singer Joey Martin Feek. She is buried on their farm, a simple wooden Cross in a simple wooden casket. Private funeral.

If folks accept that money, hope they read the fine print first...
Bet there are provisions that come with it that benefit federal and state governments somehow.
Betcha.
Will Killer Cuomo get a cut?
So did my husband. His family was insistent on a funeral which my husband explicitly told me he didn't want. COVID allowed me to get around it easily and honor his wishes.
He also wished to be cremated - and I had to fight his family on that too. Cost: $900 - as opposed to what? $5-10,000 for a "regular" funeral?
The funeral industry really has us over a barrel - getting us at our most vulnerable time so they can up their profits.
Wife and I have made same explicit request to our children to minimize cost once we are finished with our bodies here in this life.
MIL died from covid in December. We already had a plot, and stone already paid for. Cost 15k to bury her with nothing at funeral home and a small grave site funeral. Absurd. Cost more than the 1st funeral we paid for when we had to also buy the plot and marker 10 -12 years ago.
We’re being primed for full-on Socialism.
Another cog in the wheel of breaking the bank.
Probably varies by state or region. I paid $9K for a decent Missouri burial a few years ago.
From my parents on down, we all agreed that cremation is the way to go. Dust to dust.”
We have pre paid ash security boxes at our church for our ashes.
A sibling has our mother’s ashes. Others were buried in pre bought cemetery plots by our ancestors.
George Floyd had the Covid.
Guaranteed to make the Covid numbers go up. Gotta win those erections>
Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......
You have uncovered the actual UN re-distribution of wealth plan...
Time to get into the Funeral Business.
Well... this’ll incentivite some folks to get rid of those pesky elderly grandparents... come on you snotty kids, let’s infect granny!
That’s an excellent point. Did congress approve this?
It was in the Rescue bill
Thanks for doing this lazy man’s due diligence.
