The former chief of staff to ex-President Donald Trump on Saturday pushed back against his former boss' recent attempt to whitewash the history of the January 6 Capitol riot.
Mick Mulvaney, who stepped down as Trump's special envoy to Northern Ireland after the insurrection, called Trump's comments that his supporters were "hugging and kissing" police officers and posed "zero threat," despite widespread violence, "manifestly false."
"I was surprised to hear the President say that. Clearly there were people who were behaving themselves, and then there were people who absolutely were not, but to come out and say that everyone was fine and there was no risk, that's just manifestly false -- people died, other people were severely injured," Mulvaney told CNN's Pamela Brown on "Newsroom."
"It's not right to say there was no risk, I don't know how you can say that when people were killed," he added.
Mulvaney was one of a handful of senior officials who resigned in the wake of the January 6 riot, including former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and former Trump deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger.
Trump earlier this week attempted to rewrite the history of the insurrection, which he stoked by repeatedly and falsely claiming the 2020 election was stolen from him. There is no evidence of widespread fraud, but Trump and many of his conservative allies in the media and on Capitol Hill have continued to push the narrative.

Trump was an outsider not a politician who had been carefully brought up from the ranks. The democrats and republicans had a huge army of thousands at their beck and call, not to mention the national media which is all in for the establishment.
My guess is he initially trusted his advisors on key personnel selection...maybe even some family advisors?
Walking into the job as a non politician, I can imagine the pressure on Trump to agree with the suggestions of those "career Washington insiders" who insisted on key personnel.
I'll bet, leaving it to Trump's instincts, he would never have picked many of these dufus dorks on his own.
Remember when Trump tried to have a rally in Chicago? The democrats invaded the rally and and the whole thing had to be shut down. Police were hit with bottles but it wasn’t the Trump people who did that.
I blame him for trusting the wrong people who made most of the decisions. He put too much trust in personal instincts in a POLITICAL environment, where knowing folks politics was key.
Trumps largest failures from the start - some of the people he chose. Too trusting and not enough research.
This more than anything
How sad that such a great man who is really so brilliant should be let down by idiots
Seems another traitor is looking for a media job and is on his knees.
1 person died. The woman shot inside the capital by unnamed person.
.......................................................
It was a black police officer. That’s been confirmed and reported many times. His name? Not been released far as I’ve heard.
he’s not really ex-President. He’s former.
.....................................
He’s neither. He’s the POTUS in exile. Joe Biden is not the President because he’s never been legitimately elected to that office. And no one on the planet can ever make it otherwise.
The trouble with most “republicans” these days is that they are a bunch of disloyal, back-stabbing low-life bastards with way too many skeletons in their closets.
.........................
Well and truly said, and every word of it. I haven’t seen any analysis of GOP fundraising since the “steal”, but I suspect it is way below expectations. I will never again contribute to any GOP organization, but will contribute to our POTUS and to individual candidates who I deem to be trustworthy.
How can Trump’s claims be false if he has a manifest?
Clearly 99.5% of the people were behaving themselves, and then there were a small handful of people who absolutely were not.
...............................................
I think the vast majority of the miscreants have been charged with the horrendous crime of trespassing. A small number of others have apparently been charged with destruction of property, and a smaller number have apparently been charged with assault. In total, I think I’ve read that those charged totaled between two hundred and three hundred people. On the other hand, it’s been estimated there were probably over a quarter of million people around the Capitol on January 6.
Anyone who uses the word “insurrection” is either a liar or a useful idiot.
.................................................
No question about it, but these evil people know that an enormous percentage of the country’s population have no critical thinking skills and have been psychologically conditioned to accept as truthful virtually everything the leftist-controlled Democrat Party, the news media, and academia presents to them.
These idiots still have their buttons turned to “pedantic literalists morons.”
Sometimes people use phrases that are descriptive, rather than accurate.
If CNN said that there is dirt in the ground I’d get a shovel and make sure the democrats hadn’t shipped it all to China.
Can’t believe the numbskulls who believe anything CNN burps up - what mooks.

This event was America’s Reichstag.
Perhaps it was closer to at least 99.88% of the people were behaving themselves.
For some reason Christopher Wray wants to put them all in jail. He must be following in the footsteps of the French Revolution where accusations were adequate to send people to the guillotine. He is politically correct and in accord with the leftist media.
