A Minnesota woman pleaded guilty today to one count of delivering national defense information to aid a foreign government.
According to court documents, Mariam Taha Thompson, 63, formerly of Rochester, Minnesota, worked as a contract linguist at an overseas U.S. military facility where she was entrusted with a top secret government security clearance.

In December 2019, while Thompson was assigned to a special operations task force facility in Iraq, the United States launched a series of airstrikes in Iraq targeting Kata’ib Hizballah, an Iranian-backed foreign terrorist organization. These airstrikes culminated in a Jan. 3, 2020, strike that resulted in the death of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force commander Qasem Suleimani, as well as the founder of Kata’ib Hizballah, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
Following Suleimani’s death, the unindicted co-conspirator started asking Thompson to provide “them” with information about the human assets who had helped the United States to target Suleimani. Thompson admitted that she understood “them” to be Lebanese Hizballah, including an unnamed high-ranking military commander.

Good point. And as a further example, consider Syria. Different parts of our government appear to be backing different sides there. So who is our “enemy” there? Everybody? Nobody?
Legally, the answer is NOBODY.
My guess when reading the title was that the perp would be Chinese, not a bad guess considering how many CCP spies have infiltrated this country, and how many Americans have sold out to them.
That makes me a racist, of course.

I got several stories from my marine buddy. (He’s out now, but spent several deployments in Afghanistan.) In his opinion, the translators were not on our side. He spoke several languages, which he both studied and picked up on his own. He’d report mistranslations that caused problems and nothing was done about it. Probably, because he didn’t have the right code for language skills so they discounted him.
He is one of those rare people who can pick up a language in a short time. In my opinion, he is WAY smarter than me in every aspect. Oddly, I can’t convince him of this. I suspect his mother downplayed his smarts when he was young. We all have issues from our childhood.
