Sen. Mitt Romney was named to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award Friday for being the only Republican who voted to convict former President Donald Trump in his first impeachment trial.
“The award was created by the family of the late president to honor public figures who risk their careers by embracing unpopular positions for the greater good, and is named after Kennedy’s 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, ‘Profiles in Courage,'” NBC 5 reported.
The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum’s website said Romney’s “courageous stand was historic.”
“Senator Romney’s commitment to our Constitution makes him a worthy successor to the Senators who inspired my father to write Profiles in Courage,” former Ambassador Caroline Kennedy commented.
“He reminds us that our Democracy depends on the courage, conscience, and character of our elected officials,” she continued.
Kennedy and her son, Jack Schlossberg, will present the award during a virtual ceremony in May.
In a tweet Friday morning, Romney said he was “humbled” by the recognition:
In February, hundreds signed an online petition criticizing Romney and state GOP leaders for not censuring the lawmaker over his vote to convict Trump, Breitbart News reported:
“Senator Willard Mitt Romney has failed, and continues to fail, to represent the average conservative Utah Republican voter,” the petition states, declaring that the Utah senator has “misrepresented himself as a Republican” and concluding that he has “prioritized his personal and political vendetta against President Donald J. Trump ahead of the Constitution of the United States, the interest of We, the People, and the advancement of the Republican Platform.”
The petition brought up Romney’s past conduct, identifying him as the only GOP senator to join Democrats in voting to convict Trump on one of the articles of impeachment during the Democrats’ failed impeachment attempt last year. It also criticized Romney for supporting the continuation of the “unconstitutional” impeachment trial of Trump by voting to allow witnesses.
Gag.

Romney should spin on that award.
Mitt’s Sally Field moment: “They Like Me! They REALLY Like Me!!”
Saw that live. Hated it then, ,,,
These things have become such a joke. Any respectable honorable person would refuse to appear for any such kind of award. Not that I think Woody Allen is a respectable honorable person, but at least he refuses to show up to accept his Oscar awards.
Some Israeli left-wing nutjobs gave Fauci a $1 million prize for “speaking truth to power”. I LMAO when I heard that. Fauci doesn’t speak truth to power. Fauci IS power. Or giving Obama the “Nobel Peace Prize” before he did anything, and before he OK’d many foreign incursions. Or giving the peace price to Yassir Arafat.
Now we know why it was so important for Pelosi to give the Kennedy Center $25 million in Covid Stimulus money.
This medal has gone the way of the Nobel Prizes.
another quid pro quo
speechless
Another award rendered worthless.
DANG!
Didn’t Romney already get his 30 pieces of silver?
“Courageous” MUGWUMP!
Romney and his goons threatened the Awards board
or else he’d destroy Gotham
cuz clown world...
I just created two new awards.
The first is called: “Presidents who are 10 times better than JFK and who have far more courage than anyone who ever won a JFK profile in courage award“.
That award goes to Donald Trump.
The second is called: “The most intelligent, gracious and beautiful woman ever to be the First Lady of the United States.
That award goes to Melania Trump.
Mith has already sold his soul, so it matters not.
You forgot the Barf alert.
Why do you need a Barf Alert? “Mitt Romney” means the same thing.
Willard will NEVER be POTUS.
And that turns out to be a Good Thing.
