Turkey tells U.S. at NATO that Russian defense purchase is 'done deal'

ANKARA, March 24 (Reuters) - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he told U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday that Ankara's purchase of Russian air defences was "a done deal", adding that the NATO allies needed a roadmap to discuss their disagreements.

Ankara and Washington have been at odds over issues including Syria policy, human rights and the S-400 air defence acquisition, over which the United States has sanctioned Turkey and removed it from its F-35 fighter jet programme.

"On the S-400s, we reminded them once again why Turkey had to buy them, and repeated that Turkey had bought them and this is a done deal," Cavusoglu told reporters in Brussels after their first face-to-face meeting since Blinken took office.

Describing the talks as constructive, Cavusoglu said Ankara wanted to meet its future defence needs primarily from NATO allies, and agreed on the need to keep discussing differences with Washington.

Perhaps nato sbould wind down operations and close up shop. It seems to have outlived its usefulness.

Well, the Biden/Blinken foreign policy is ‘behind the eight ball again’.

Well, the Biden/Blinken foreign policy is ‘behind the eight ball again’.

They refer to it as Leading from behind or simply, coming in last.

Hi.

Decamp from Incirlik. Karamusel too.

The carrier strike groups will take up the slack.

And then target Erdogon and bomb Ankara. J/K.

NATO and the UN should be dissolved, everyone kicked out of this land and wherever country the other is in and the buildings razed to the ground. But there’s a lot of underground structure, so then they’ll have to destroy that, too.

Will it happen? Not unless God lobs a sizeable space rock at them both I guess. When the anti-Christ takes the helm, everything will come under his control and most of the world will welcome it. Those kingdoms (countries) that don’t will get his demonic fury.

Big useless bureaucracies lumber on for decades—long after they have ceased to serve any useful function.

The world is stuffed full of them these days.

I would have just let Khrushchev have Turkey. Maybe Istanbul would be Constantinople by now.

Back in the day, it was a good idea to have the bases across the Black Sea. It was strategically sound. With today’s stand-off and offensive weapons...not so much any more. We should immediately withdraw, and force Turkey out of NATO. I don’t need any more Turkish carpets.

That was a long time ago. Turkey sent troops to fight in the Korean War. It all changed when the radical Islamist Erdogan was allowed to take power.
