MIAMI (AP) — Vaccinated fans will soon have their own sections at Miami Heat games.

The Heat announced plans Tuesday to open two sections in their lower bowl only for fully vaccinated fans starting with an April 1 game against Golden State. They are the first NBA team to reveal such a plan, though other clubs are believed to be working on similar measures.

They aren’t making vaccinations mandatory, but the effect is the same as if they did. This is the way it’s done now. Pretend it’s not compulsory, but make it so that you can’t do anything if you don’t conform.

Next: vaccine required for a job and to go into public buildings. “Vaccine Card” coming, and possibly going under your skin in the form of a microchip.

For a lot of different reasons, this is stupid. But, the biggest reason this is stupid is science. Vaccinations are the way we artificially build barriers to transmission. From a public health perspective, concentrating all the vaccinated people in one section undermines that goal, entirely.

Intermingling the vaccinated with the non-vaccinated to slow the rate of transmission is the express purpose of vaccination.
