Honolulu Police Department Chief Susan Ballard said she thought thousands of protesters were at Kapiolani Park on Saturday afternoon — dispatching dozens of officers to a peaceful Aloha Freedom Coalition event where 400-500 gathered at a rally in protest of COVID-19 health restrictions.
According to Ballard, approximately 40 officers were at the park during the event, where two arrests were made and HPD’s actions have come under scrutiny.
Videos posted online show peaceful protesters calling for calm as officers descended. Many became agitated by what appeared to be an unwarranted police presence that escalated to the arrests. In one of the videos, a handful of officers is seen forcing a woman facedown on her knees before she is taken into custody.
“The initial information was that there was like 4,500 people, and it was clarified that there was 400 to 500 people there,” Ballard said

1. The police chief looks like your classic Karen.
2. “The officers Cordery talked to after the arrests said they didn’t know why the arrests were made and that they didn’t want to be there, but that they were just “following the higher-ups.”” Gee, what was that about US police not following fascist orders again?
Amazing how quickly, and forcefully, the tyrants respond to average citizens peacefully protesting government tyranny. Guess they should have done some looting and burning, assaulted a few police officers... You know, make it a “mostly peaceful” BLM kind of thing.
Oh yeah, protest covid-19. And the Goon Squad comes out. Burn down the city for BLM and it’s cool.
I used to respect LE.
No longer.
Get used to it, it's only going to get worse...
Bow down!... Obey!... Snitch!...
Ballard said one of the two arrests was of a man who refused to wear [a mask] . An officer was going to cite him, but then “he decided at that point that he wasn’t going to give any information.”
“The officers warned him that if he didn’t want to give them the information that he was going to be arrested
There is no place in this country where you can have hundreds of people gathered without having police present.
Did these people think there wasn’t going to be any police presence?
Typical for the city whose last police chief went to prison.
One car and two officers would have sufficed.
Thanks a lot Ben! When I scrolled down to this picture, the glass of milk next to my computer suddenly curdled!
You’ve never read community police ordinances have you? I am not debating THIS gathering. I am merely saying anyone who doesn’t understand the community rules, don’t be shocked when the police show up. These folks have to be mentally deficient.
Lucky that old hag Ballard did not sic the SWAT team on them.
All I know is that when Ben Jr. was in little league there were easily 400-500 people in the park for the games — and never saw the police at all.
Ballard is not a real cop, she used to run the Records Division until the former chief was drummed out for corruption.
This old hag is notorious for promising anyone that defends themselves with a firearm will be destroyed by putting them through the “system”.
I have dear friend whose a Honolulu cop. He says if you want to break the law, come to Hawaii. I lived there, he’s right.
