Governor Kristi Noem Announces National Coalition to Protect Fairness in Women’s Sports
The Epoch Times ^ | March 22, 2021 | MASOOMA HAQ

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Monday announced the formation of a national coalition to “Defend Title IX” to protect the rights of female athletes and keep competition fair.

During a press conference Monday morning, Noem said, “Today we’re announcing that we’re forming a coalition called DefendTitleIXNow.com,” referring to the federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities. “The coalition will consist of athletes, leaders, and everybody who cares about protecting women’s sports.”

Noem said that the coalition is separate from the debate surrounding House Bill 1217, titled Promote Continued Fairness in Women’s Sports, which bars biological males from competing in women’s or girls’ sports, because the coalition’s focus will be on women’s rights and maintaining a fair competitive environment in women’s sports and Title IX, not transgender athletes rights.

However, the governor said one of the main motivators for creating the coalition is to build enough support to push back against any pressure from groups like the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which insists on requiring biological males be included in girls’ sports.

“Once we have enough states on board, a coalition brought big enough where the NCAA [National Collegiate Athletic Association] cannot possibly punish us all, then we can guarantee fairness at the collegiate level,” Noem added.

Noem said after consulting legal scholars she decided that the coalition to protect Title IX will be far more effective and cost-efficient than getting into a legal battle about transgender women playing on female sports teams.

“We’ve been trying to figure out how to defend women’s sports effectively. These legal scholars think that South Dakota’s chances of winning a lawsuit against the NCAA are very low. When it comes to this issue if South Dakota passes a law that’s against their policy, they will likely take...

We saw the same thing in building the wall, repealing Obamacare, stopping the steal, stopping the black identity and communist riots of 2021.

Excuses and PR, excuses and PR, excuses and PR...

They don’t call the GOP the Surrender Party for nothing.

I read her letter.

If colleges and unis in the state are controlled by the state’s Board of Regents, read to me like they still have to comply with the law if she signs it.

She is doing what the ACLU and LGBTQXYZ crowd demanded. That is all you need to know. Everything else is dupe the GOP base RINO spin.

Did she sign the bill? That’s a yes or no question. What did the freaks want Noem to do? What did she do? Not sign the bill. Everything else is spin.

I take it that your answer is no.

Ping me back if you take the time to read her letter.

Then we can have a discussion.

Then you’d be wrong. I read it yesterday. I couldn’t care less about stern letters. The proof is in the pudding. I won’t be duped by spin and nonsense from a climbing RINO like Noem. It’s a time for choosing. Noem chose to support the freaks and woke corportists. This one wasn’t difficult. Sign the bill. Instead she went AWOL. I wish it was different but it is what it is.

You read the letter. Great!

Do you agree that the letter states colleges and unis subject to control by the Board of Regents would have to comply with the law if it’s signed?

LOL. I’m sure they are losing sleep about having to “comply” with a vetoed bill. Noem delivered the wanted veto for the freaks and Chamber of Commerce. Those are the facts and that is all that matters. Sorry.

I might be wrong, though. Just saw Kristi on Tucker, and it didn’t look good for her at all.

She may have caved...

This gives you a key to what is happening behind the scenes. NCAA threatened to exclude South Dakota from College Sports if she signed the bill presented to her. So, she attempted to take what she could without destroying college sports in her state, but the firestorm corrected that path. So she kicked it back to the legislature to stall the bill and then started this push.

Her news conference was a disaster! Really hurt her standing with me. Have some balls and say “transgenders are mentally ill, prove me wrong?” I’ve said this to numberous people and have yet to be proven wrong.

“...but the firestorm corrected that path. So she kicked it back to the legislature to stall the bill and then started this push.”

Sorry, don’t follow. All I know is that she gutted the bill on Friday afternoon and sent it back in that form. Has she since ‘ungutted’ it in any way?

She sent it back.. they can over-ride. The problem is that the Woke crowd rose up to offer to destroy South Dakota’s participation in ANY College sports. She tried to find a compromise, but yea.. it looked bad.

So, now she is trying to build support to deal with the “actual” problem. You can get all mad and cut her off.. and we have one less leader.. or you can accept that she got the message and is now trying to do something effective. Soon though, you won’t have anyone to be mad at except for the folks you really hate as they carry you off to the gulag.

What blather. Guess she’s all hat no cattle. Tolerating transgenders competing as women....has no “ fairness”. Make this “ fair”

ocrp1982: You are correct, I was wrong.

I read analyses at The Federalist, Revolver, and The Blaze this morning, and I was too willing to give Gov. Noem an initial benefit-of-the-doubt, based on her solid handling of the Chi-Com virus in South Dakota.

Thank you for your measured response and not jumping down my throat (as happens so often on other social media platforms).
