South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Monday announced the formation of a national coalition to “Defend Title IX” to protect the rights of female athletes and keep competition fair.
During a press conference Monday morning, Noem said, “Today we’re announcing that we’re forming a coalition called DefendTitleIXNow.com,” referring to the federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in educational programs and activities. “The coalition will consist of athletes, leaders, and everybody who cares about protecting women’s sports.”
Noem said that the coalition is separate from the debate surrounding House Bill 1217, titled Promote Continued Fairness in Women’s Sports, which bars biological males from competing in women’s or girls’ sports, because the coalition’s focus will be on women’s rights and maintaining a fair competitive environment in women’s sports and Title IX, not transgender athletes rights.
However, the governor said one of the main motivators for creating the coalition is to build enough support to push back against any pressure from groups like the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which insists on requiring biological males be included in girls’ sports.
“Once we have enough states on board, a coalition brought big enough where the NCAA [National Collegiate Athletic Association] cannot possibly punish us all, then we can guarantee fairness at the collegiate level,” Noem added.
Noem said after consulting legal scholars she decided that the coalition to protect Title IX will be far more effective and cost-efficient than getting into a legal battle about transgender women playing on female sports teams.
“We’ve been trying to figure out how to defend women’s sports effectively. These legal scholars think that South Dakota’s chances of winning a lawsuit against the NCAA are very low. When it comes to this issue if South Dakota passes a law that’s against their policy, they will likely take...

Her cave on this is indefensible....
Saying defending women’s sports ends when you go to college is indefensible...
Swamp is alive and well
“Noem should just shut up and go away. She had a bill right there on her desk. But she chose not to sign it because schools might have to keep a record among the dozens they already do, and because the State might lose cash from the perverts who want males in womens sports.
Typical republican. Did what the Chamber of Commerce said.
“
You honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. But you sure talk loud about it.
The only “flaw” in the bill was that schools had to document their sports with a declaration. Along with dozens of other consent and medical forms they already require.
And it included state universities.
The bill was clean, tight, and to the point.
She sold her values and cited signing it risked boycotts and lawsuits.
We know what she is, now she’s just haggling over her price.
She will stand by her values, unless doing so incurs a cost.
Biden’s directive effectively does away with competitive female sports. Liberals and feminists love Title IV, and it is being gutted.
You are obviously seriously misinformed. I suggest you read The Federalist’s analysis of her “objections” and her ‘demands for changes’. It will be enlightening to you.
Her “suggestions” effectively eviscerate the law and give cover to the Tranny Lobby championed by The state Chamber of Communists which threatened to withdraw all money and support from her. This fight over this law has been revealing. She pretended to be a champion of Conservatism until she was forced into a position to live up to it or cave to the Establishment. She caved instantly and is now in damage control mode once she was exposed.
Always an excuse. She folded and had no courage. There is no other way to look at it.
Bump
Exposed R I N O.
It’s like her very own Nikki Haley Confederate flag moment.
It’s not fake news. She had a straightforward bill on her desk. She said she was excited to sign it. Then the COC and her lawyers swarmed around and she caved.
SO which is it? Was she an uninformed dumbbell when she was excited to sign it? She wasn’t watching it progress through the legislature? OR was she swayed by the COC and their money buddies.
Either way, she has a wonderful excuse. My physics teacher was a Tuskegee Airman in WWII. A no-nonsense guy. He had a saying about excuses. He would cheerfully accept any excuse you gave him. Then he would say, “and what is an excuse? That is a reason that I cannot rely on you”.
We cannot rely on her.
Wonder how her “jumping the shark” plays into this publicity stunt?
Was prepared to wait & see what the outcome of her veto would be before throwing her to the wolves...
However this stunt gets her my thumbs down and middle finger salute and a phone call to the local wolves telling them to eat hearty...
Not only toast, but burnt toast at that!
too late.
she’s toast.
I had high hopes for her...disappointing.
This is why FR is fading in the construct of effective debate. ..
Too many small minded so called legal minds..........
A politician through and through it seems to me. No convictions but the propaganda machine seems to bury the truth every time.
“Her cave on this is indefensible....Saying defending women’s sports ends when you go to college is indefensible...Swamp is alive and well”
Even worse is her excuse, that the NCAA is forcing her hand. Think of it this way: The NCAA is telling her that she must DESTROY women’s sports in order to continue having men’s sports...and she takes the bait!
It’s amazing how easily the Left, the NCAA in this case, can take a promising candidate on our side and simply make her self-implode.
Tucker grilled her as well, to my satisfaction.
She asserted the language she has asked be revised could have made lots of innocents vulnerable to a lawsuit.
She didn’t veto anything. If revisions aren’t satisfactory, she’ll demand a new bill.
She’s not caving, imho.
“Kristi, Kristi, Kristi.
She had a great opportunity to make a national statement.
It was lined up in front of her like an easy punt of a football. But no!”
I know...she literally hand the nomination in her hands, all she had to do was not screw it up. If I had been advising her, I would have told her to tell her voters just what the Special Interests were demanding:
1. The Public Schools: Gutting the law to make it symbolic only, with no enforcement mechanism and no defense against retaliation for filing a complaint.
2. Amazon: Threatening to locate 50 jobs in Iowa instead of South Dakota if she didn’t give-in to their demands (whatever they were).
3. NCAA: Agreeing to allow women’s sports to be destroyed, as the price of being allowed to compete in men’s sports.
And all she had to do, after explaining the lobbying, was say: “I told them to STUFF IT, I’m signing the bill as is”, and with that, she would have NAILED DOWN Trump’s base for 2024 and had a clear road to the nomination. Now she just comes across as Jeb in drag. Please clap.
“She asserted the language she has asked be revised could have made lots of innocents vulnerable to a lawsuit.”
The bill has 4 sections, she wants 2 of them gone, completely. If he’s using the term ‘revise’, she’s flat-out lying. She wants the bill gutted, she can at least be that honest about her intentions.
