Johnson & Johnson should come close to hitting its target of delivering 20 million doses of its one-shot COVID-19 vaccine in March after its shipments stalled in recent weeks, a top White House official said on Monday (22 Mar)...
The company shipped four million shots in early March but its rollout has since stalled as facilities involved in the manufacturing await clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
...far less than the 20 million it promised to deliver by the end of March...
J&J did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Initial U.S. doses have been made at the company’s plant in Leiden, the Netherlands. J&J has been waiting on the FDA to approve plants of outside contract manufacturers that will produce the vaccine, such as Catalent Inc.

J&J is supposed to deliver 20 million by the end of March, and a total of 100 million by the end of June.
Got J&J last week through the VA. Not much out there.
Sounds like the dam is about to burst on J&J’s US domestic production - it had been held up waiting for a bureaucrat’s chop.
FDA could take a long time to sign off on a facility. And unless I am mistaken I think Merck was supposed to co-manufacture it for JNJ as well to ramp up production.
I’m curious what is behind the headline. Presumably the other two vaccines are continuing at a steady pace so why does this matter to the general public? Are people waiting for the JNJ version? I know a few people who said they asked for the JNJ and were told “you can wait a few months or take what we got”.
It matters because the JNJ is a traditional vaccine, so the side effects are minimal. We do not "know" the long term effects of the other vaccines.
That’s sort of what I was driving at. But it wasn’t so explicitly stated and fwiw we don’t know the long term effects of any of them. But yes my hunch is many people would prefer the JNJ but to hear the media and medical establishment they talk of them all equally - by which logic dictates it doesn’t matter (not that I agree).
Friend took this thing last week, said it was the sickest he’s ever been.
Bureaucracy and red tape make a comeback under Dementia Joe.
Recommend you decline mDNA Pfizer, mDNA Moderna, mDNA AstraZenica, “emergency FDA approved” vaccines.
I’ve been waiting for J&J, but nobody around here appears to have gotten more than 100 doses.
“Presumably the other two vaccines are continuing at a steady pace so why does this matter”
The other two keep gradually ramping up their rate of delivery. At the end of February, they ramped it up to 13.5 million per week (Combined Pfizer and Moderna). They are slated to speed up further, and deliver a total of 300 million each (570 million by the end of June).
J&J punches over its weight class in getting the job done, because its a one-shot - it cuts through the population twice as fast. They matter, because they could get us out of lockdown quickly - if they deliver quickly.
They are on contract to deliver 100 million by the end of June. 100 million people vaccinated is a huge chunk.
Hunter has probably been waiting for a check to clear.
What's this 'lockdown' thing you mentioned?
“I’ve been waiting for J&J”
Keep your eyes peeled later this week, and next, as the new supply hits the system.

Uncheck the other vaccines, and search.
You still need to meet the current State/Local eligibility requirements where you live, but those are opening up, and are likely to blow wide open between now and May First.
Thanks.
“Hunter has probably been waiting for a check to clear.”
If they haven’t found some way to skim kickbacks on this hot commodity that they control, then they don’t have a hair on their butts.
“Friend took this thing last week, said it was the sickest he’s ever been.”
My cousin took this thing last week, and two days later he was the deadest he’d ever been.
“I think Merck was supposed to co-manufacture it for JNJ as well to ramp up production.”
Yes, you are right. Reportedly, they won’t start delivering from those facilities until Summer. J&J got a second contract, for 100 million more, to keep running after their first contract (also for 100 million) is scheduled to complete by the end of June.
Overall, The FedGov has contracts for over 1.2 billion doses, with more than enough for our whole population scheduled for delivery by the end of June.
He died? I’m so sorry. 🙁
