San Francisco's hidden truth is out. That's what community organizer Carol Mo calls the realization that Asian residents are being targeted for robberies, burglaries and intimidation by young black men.
"It is San Francisco's dirty little secret," said Mo, a former Safety Network Community organizer in the Sunset District. "It's not news to us."
Hundreds of people marched into Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting to express their fear, frustration and outrage. But so far the response has been disappointing, particularly from the San Francisco Police Department. It seems intent on downplaying the role of race and its impact in the community.
The recent incidents of black violence against Asians is the perfect opportunity to open a dialogue about racism. Instead, they are attempting to close the door.
City officials, including the Police Department, say these assaults are part of a larger crime picture where gangs of kids take advantage of a vulnerable group of small stature. But Mo participated in a 2008 survey by the Police Department in which about 300 strong-arm robberies were analyzed. "In 85 percent of the physical assault crimes, the victims were Asian and the perpetrators were African American," she said.
The squeamishness city officials are experiencing about confronting those numbers doesn't reflect well on anyone.

Ping.
The same is true in Houston. The thugs know that older Asian do not like banks nc carry lots of cash.
Nooo! That’s racist! You can’t accuse blacks. He was stressed over the 400 years of slavery. He was just turning his life around and becoming a rapper.
(Sarcasm)
Thank you for the post. Although I think it would be more true to say “Feral youths target anyone they think is weak.”
It was a secret? Nah, just unrecognized by the establishment ... one of those “of this we shall not speak” things.
The term “Rooftop Asian” was not coined from fear of white supremacy
Maybe if Asians paid reparations to the blacks they won’t beat them up any more.
Filipinos, Vietnamese do practice US regulatory practices. (brother is married to a Filipina, so I know) HOWEVER, the old Chinese restaurants and groceries I go to in Vancouver (the gritty/dirty ones)..the cashiers are as old as IBM computers. The one frequent place I got to in Vancouver is a 20 store strip, and they take cash only.
More than a few times, right below the “cashier” is a fruit cardboard box stack full of bills. I saw them pull it out like they dont care. Never saw that much amount of real money in my life.
Maybe if Asians paid reparations to the blacks they won’t beat them up any more.
Are they kidding? Every black and Asian knows this. It's never been a secret.
The establishment media is like a very dense material where information slows to a crawl despite being beamed planet-wide via satellite at the speed of light, and where things that were common knowledge ten years ago on this very forum, suddenly become a revelation to society at large, or so we’re told.
The Media-Dem Party and its allies in Hollyweird have been screaming about “white supremacy” being the cause of the attacks on Asians. They are attempting to drown out the truth.
opps.
Bump
LOL...all the panties-in-a-wad, hand-wringing, fainting-couch, pearl-clutching liberalism in that article ELEVEN years ago didn’t do a bit of good...
“Create a dialogue”
“Speak up”
Yeah, that works against violent enemies.
How about concealed carry?
There were burglaries and robberies of Asians in Stockton, Ca. too. Carrying cash and keeping it in the homes. ‘Content of character’ issues.
This particular truth wasn’t hidden.
