Former Florida Governor Charlie Crist Giving ‘Serious Consideration’ To Challenging DeSantis For His Old Job

Florida Democratic Rep. Charlie Crist, the former governor of Florida, is giving “serious consideration” to challenging current Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for his old job in 2022.

Crist, who switched from Republican to Independent in 2010 after he was about to lose a U.S. Senate primary race to Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, then later became a self-described “Barack Obama Democrat,” told “CNN Newsroom’s” Pamela Brown on Saturday that he has not made a decision yet, but is “closer to it by the day.”

“Of course it’s premature,” Crist said, criticizing gatherings in Miami and the lack of restrictions in the state. “I’m an old football player and you don’t celebrate a touchdown until you get in the end zone. We’re not in the end zone on this thing yet.”

DeSantis, South Dakota’s Kristi Noem, and Tennessee’s Bill Lee are among just a few GOP governors to eschew a statewide mask mandate during the ongoing pandemic, instead leaving the decision to local authorities.

Brown pointed out Florida’s low unemployment rate and COVID mortality rates compared to other states, asking Crist if DeSantis “deserves any credit for the state’s handling of the pandemic?”

The Democratic congressman shifted credit to local authorities and blamed the current governor for “irresponsible leadership” before bringing up an ongoing controversy about vaccines distributed “in a mostly white Republican, mostly wealthy neighborhood.”

No Charlie is not considering a run for FL Governor. No more than Yeb. Both know they are unelectable in any statewide election. Pure BS article.

Take it from someone who lives here, DeSantis’ real approval rating is at least 10-points higher than they say it is. And, much of that increase has come from those under the age of 40.

DeSantis is going to be reelected, easily.

My BFF lives in FL for the last 5 years. While down there she is turning more religious and more conservative.

She is still registered Dem. says she wants to be Independent. She was totally on board with Trump (though like me, she doesn’t like Trump’s style), and DeSantis.

Can’t totally go by registrations. Lord know MD conservatives talk about registering Dem so they can pick the worst Dem!

If Charlie Crist is the best that the Democrats can rally behind it shows how much trouble the Democrats have in Florida.

WTF not? The new normal vote system is endorsed by the worthless court and justice systems and any DNC candidate is assured victory. Since our side has no answer to this, is it a reach to say FLA, TX, GA will flip easily?

He has to win the governorship first which should be a walk over as of today albeit the media is 100% against him.

On a lighter side, Crist would have to get past that horrid dem Ag commissioner here who is salivating to run for either Gov or perhaps against Rubio. Rubio is what he is but he is strong 2A verses the dem who is an anti gun jerk.

I’d like to see Megyn Kelly do a “tell-all” interview with Crist’s two ex-wives. #1 was back in ‘79, and they were married only for one year. #2 was in 2008 when there was buzz about him being a candidate for president (not kidding), and as his political prospects faded, so did the marriage.
