Sadly, the murderer probably had way more than "fantasies" about the Asian women in the brothels, and even more tragically the women in the brothels may well have been "reduced to sex objects" by other women, and although we don't know yet about the particular "spas" where the victims worked, they may have been victims of human trafficking or coercion themselves.
Somehow the authors are unwilling to look at what was really going on at the places where the victims were working. In many similar businesses Asian women exploit other women, coercing them into prostitution.
But they were sex workers and as far as known not being forced into such. I am not crazy for thinking that it would be rather logical for someone engaging their service to look at them as sex objects.
Asian women are being forced into prostitution because they are being denied admittance to Ivy League Universities because they are Asian.
Often the manager and owner is a woman, typically Asian herself. Don't assume that the real control of the business is at the hands of some man. That's not true for many businesses of all types run by Asian families.
The person I listened to hooked it back to organized crime in China, but yes I am sure the Madam running the joint is pretty much in charge here.
Nobody hates Asians more than other Asians.

My wife qualifies as “Asian. She came here over 30 years ago. No one assumes she is a prostitute. Maybe because she has kids, is a Baptist and would slug anyone who accused her of being a prostitute?

It's common knowledge that "massage parlors" are fronts for prostitution.
It's also common knowledge that the "Asian" massage parlors are staffed by recent immigrants, legal and illegal.
They promise them jobs in America, take their passports, seclude and control them and force them into prostitution.
I'll bet the shooter was a customer of every one of these places.
