Such inhumane cruelty must surely be called to account on that last day.

Then this miserable chapter will drag out even longer. Accommodations should have been made in this case however. In the beginning, I had to hold a few phones up to people’s ears so they could say goodbye. One of a long list of memories I could do without.

National Health System (NHS) in Britain and thus they have a degree of immunity from the common people (Subjects of the Crown). However, even here, under these pandemic rules, I can imagine our ‘Habeas Corpus’ rights to visit / examine someone in confinement would take far longer than weeks!

The power of bureaucracy is that it is easier for a functionary to say ‘NO’ that to take responsibility for saying ‘YES’! and the corollary to this is to say neither and delay any decision at all! Reference Lois Learner and the IRS interminable delays of legitimate political groups applying for 501(c) certifications! Same thing in essence!

Had we been allowed just five minutes with him under supervision, he would still be here.

How does that work?

Were they going to shoot him up with the Supercure or what?

And this is probably the main reason why so many people with serious problems are avoiding hospitals. Ads encouraging people to come to the ER if they have certain symptoms are constantly running in my area, but based on the content of such ads which go on and on about all the precautions they take, they seem to think that concerns over catching the virus are the main reason. But I suspect ending up in a situation where your loved ones can’t visit you, can’t advocate for you in person (which is at least seems more effective than a call to the doc on the phone), and you end up alone for days and days is a bigger concern. Hospitals with strict policies need to consider loosening their policies and those that already have loosened them need to be shouting that fact rom the rooftops.

I have a family member in assisted living. the help come and go.. she has not had her 2 daughters in for over a year.. they can wave from outside.. but cannot come in.

This lockdown was dumb to begin with.
its over the top now!.

if I could get 75% of all who walk into Walmart in a day..
go in without a mask.. I’d do it.

a guard stationed at the door for a stupid mask.. reeks with control..

When are we going to end this political charade!

“I have a family member in assisted living. the help come and go.. she has not had her 2 daughters in for over a year.. they can wave from outside.”

I blame the daughters. They should remove her and bring her to live with one of them, as has been done throughout human history. Always easy? No, but freaking deal with it. It’s not as bad as warehousing your parent in an authoritarian housing area.

my father who is in his ate 80’s was recently hospitalized. No visitors allowed.... however, you can have someone go in as their “compassionate caregiver.” My son volunteered and was there every day in the hospital with him for two weeks.
Hospitals in USA have to allow this type of assistance, just do not ask to have a visitor.

My dad (age 79) died January 27 of dementia - very rapid decline in the last year. The diagnosis of mild congnitive dysfunction to severe dementia was quick and he died less than a year after being told he had MCD. He also had congestive heart failure and renal failure.

He was in Memory Care since the end of last summer. We went to get him on Labor Day weekend and spend the day at my sisters pool and patio grilling out. That was the last time we saw him conscious and functioning.

My mom is in independant living in the same facility he was and was not allowed to see him other than a few attempts at facetime that he couldn’t participate in very well.

They called us on January 21 and told us we need to get there to see him “sooner rather than later” as they thought he was showing immenent end of life signs. They limited his visitors to 4 - but only 2 at a time. We wanted my mom in there the entire time, so we switched one at a time and let her stay with him . Two extra family members (his grandchildren) showed up to say goodbye also, which made the facility very upset although they still let them in.

We had to wear a face shield and a mask - although we had to share the same face shield as they only had one. The safety and hygiene of this move seemed to have escaped them. He was not conscious during these visits.

The next morning my mom wanted to see him again and was told “he was doing better a little” so they wouldn’t allow her. They finally caved and gave his wife of 59 years “fifteen minutes”. She stayed a half hour. Stupid silly rules.....was there anything she was going to “pass on to him” after fifteen minutes? He was unconscious the entire time still.

January 25 hospice took over and on January 26 they allowed us to see him again and my mom got to spend several hours there, although he remained unconscious. He died later that night.

He spent the last few months of his life not knowing where he was and never saw his family again, which is heartbreaking. Probably even part of his rapid decline was the isolation from his loved ones. He also died 2 weeks after his covid vaccination.

The nursing home my wife works at bent the rules a bit. First they allowed visitors to sit outside the window of the resident’s room and crack the window to talk. Then later on, they allowed outdoor visits at a 6 foot round table.

They’ve had 35 residents get covid and two died but they were in pretty bad health to begin with and would have died if they’d have gotten the flu.
